New Year's Day Bowls

Does anyone know why the Rose Bowl has no other bowl game going up against it during the same time slot? There were 4 other bowls (Ticket City, Gator, Outback, and Capital One)that kicked off at roughly the same time 3-4 hours prior to the Rose Bowl.

I don't think any of the BCS games have competition.

Also, they didn't want to be overshadowed by SEC domination (thanks for ruining that, Georgia), so they schedule all the SEC games in the early time slot...

for the Rose Bowl to even come on board to the BCS concept and not automatically bogart the Pac 10 and Big 10 (at the time) champs. I'm assuming an uncontested time slot was a factor. That's right, the best sport in North America was essentially held hostage by a parade featuring floats made out of flowers.
