New Spider-Man

If you and your kids have not seen Inside Out 2 I would highly recommend that one. Like I said, I thought it was pretty profound.

Oh it definitely is. But it was more so for my daughter - she watched it and just kind of looked at me and said "I understand now."

Which is why we have been working on giving her outlets to express and handle her anxiety since then. Little girls have it so much harder than boys do, it seems.

Not to be a contrarian, but we went to Toy Story 5 as a family based on all of the positive reviews and honestly, we were bored. It felt like there was nothing new in the movie. Granted I'm 52, my wife is 51, and our kids are 21 and 18, but I was expecting something profound like how we felt after watching Inside Out 2. Before that movie, I never realized I was an anxious person, but I identified more with "Anxiety" than I care to admit.

Contrary away. TBF, I figured I would leave feeling the same way you did but I thought they did a great job of integrating devices and the struggle it can be for kids to make new friends in this day and age. And to play without devices. It isn't like when we were kids and you just go to the local park and join the pick me up game of soccer, basketball, baseball, football, etc.. And the humor, as always, was pretty good. Woody getting fat and bald? Come on. That was funny.

With that said. One of the highlights of the previews I saw was the upcoming inside out #3 in the works. That show is great. Another good one to check out is soul. That one damn near made me emotional.

I have 2 boys and 1 girl. They absolutely 100% have it harder than boys do. It is tough being a girl these days. Boys will be boys.

I'm probably watched 1/3 to 1/2 of Marvel's offerings since Endgame and I'm trying to stay away from spoilers/leaks for Doomsday.

Does anyone have suggestions on what Marvel shows/movies I should watch so that I'm not completely lost when December comes around?

I am a comic nerd for sure. We will go watch Spiderman this week. I still have a big collection of comics that I was buying for 10 cents and 25 cents from way back. Most of them not in collector condition.

Not necessarily. The entire current MCU started with a fringe character--Iron Man. Casting and story matter. Crap like The Marvels was complete and utter garbage--Capt Marvel is a completely unwatchable character and it's not because she's a woman. Gal Gadot was a fantastic WW and Scarlett Johansson was great as Black Widow. Casting and story matter...don't force junk on the audience and we'll watch. Heck, we'll pay good money to watch.

I'm a YUGE DC fan, but I'll wait for free streaming for Super Girl. Why? Casting is terrible.

Iron Man definitely wasn't fringe. I grew up during the "action figure" heyday (Star Wars, GI Joe, He-Man, Transformers, etc.) and was heavy into comics, as well ... and Iron Man was well featured even back then. Only the "top" guys in the comics were getting action figures, and he was one. Spider-Man, Iron Man, Hulk, Wolverine, Captain America ... those were the top cats for Marvel then. Iron Man was actually my favorite.

But you're correct that casting and story matter ... but so does picking the right characters.

It's not a shocker that, going forward, for Marvel to be successful, I think they need to focus on the bigger characters, and when they do go a bit fringe, they need to bring in a stud actor and have a killer storyline that matches that person's vibe. Like they're having a go at Ghost Rider yet again ... and the first thing I thought of was "they need a Ryan Gosling" type to make that work ... and that's who they got. You give him the right script, and that could work ... they're also casting Sacha Baron Cohen as Mephisto, and that has the potential to be a killer casting choice, if used correctly in that movie ... though his debut as Mephisto in Ironheart left a lot to be desired (too straight/serious).

NOTE: Marvel probably would have started their movies with Spider-Man, or X-Men (for Wolverine's popularity), but they had sold off the movie rights to those 2 properties, so they chose 2 of their 3 next most popular ... Iron Man and Hulk.
