Some coaches can't develop like other coaches can. If your a big time recruit and want to get ready for the NBA, there are a few coaches that have a good track record doing that. Johnny Jones is not on that list.

VERY GOOD/POTENTIAL
Bruce Pearl, Auburn
Ben Howland, Mississippi State
Avery Johnson, Alabama

Mike Anderson, Arkansas
Johnny Jones, LSU

This is spot on . Also I think Mike White can be very very good eventually.

Pearl is the most over hyped and overrated coach in America and loved by many UK fans (because he paints himself orange and sweats, I guess). Howland proved he could win games before but it is a lot easier recruiting for UCLA than Starkville.

None of these guys will set the world on fire. It's the SEC. Nobody gives a damn.

No, people like Pearl because he coaches with a ton of passion and he plays an exciting brand of basketball.
And he likes to Bar-B-Q. Who doesn't like a good bar-B-Q?

Really like the potential for Pearl at Auburn, Howland at Miss St, Barnes at UT, and Johnson at Bama. All of those coaches are very good coaches and should be able to turn those programs into tournament caliber teams.

I'm afraid Mark Fox isn't the long term answer in Athens. He's got as many NIT early exits as big dance appearances. He seems to have a good reputation among his peers and to be relatively well respected by fans on here and in general, but he just hasn't done much more than barely mediocre.

UGA is the type of situation the SEC needs to get involved in because I don't know that the bulldogs and their decision makers really care. The league and their consultants need to give the lazy bulldog a little nudge to get up and get moving.

Atlanta has a lot of basketball talent, and they are right next door to the florida pipe lines. It is not acceptable for UGA to be the type of basketball program that they are. They are a big time P5 institution with a well recognized brand, have a lot of money and resources, and are close to great recruiting areas. They need to be better.

Kim Anderson was a bit of a head scratcher, but it is still too early to tell as he was left with a mess. he did play for Mizzou and a few years in the league, was a good coach at Central Missouri, but I think there were better options. I say he gets at least 2-3 more years.
