Had Mullen been an OM grad and left for OM -- how many do you think he would have flipped? He would have taken the whole class...[/QUOTE

How can you know that for sure? That’s a humongous assumption if he didn’t or couldn’t do that in going to Florida what makes you think he could get them all to go to UM? Which one should be more attractive to a player? Your logic is working like the climate change models. Too much assumptions. Anyway, knock yourself out with the no compete for UM-only coaches. Tell you what if it happens I’ll buy a one year ad in the six pack magazine thatsbsays engine was right

Right but it would impact EE back counters if in play so it would still have impacted us even signing under 25. I read a 247 blurb that acted lile it was effective but couldnt confirm anywhere

This article indicates its effective:

Doesn't really make a difference in the terminology there as it relates to us. The 25 hard cap isn't in place until next class. The exact number of available countbacks is a little complicated to figure, but in our case was 30+ overall yesterday.

Being that we only have 3 expected midyear enrollees, our new effective maximum in the class is 28 unless they completely overhauled the system and I am unaware of it...

Florida 600 miles away. OM 80 miles away. Two totally different deals. If you don't think that jump would absolutely destroy our class, I don't know what to tell you. There are examples all over the country of coaches destroying classes by making jumps to similar geographical areas and taking most of their classes with them. Chris Petersen and James Franklin immediately come to mind. That said, I don't think you can limit where a head coach can go, just roll a hefty buyout on the front end. Our mistake with Mullen was not having a significant one in the initial contract. Once he already saw success, he had all the power. That's the problem with the "show me" approach before paying guys as well. By the time they show you, they have the leverage.

I think the 25 cap is in place now. Effecitve for anyone signing after aug 1 2017

After doing research on it, it looks like you are right and I am wrong barring there being some loophole there. The word from 247 had always been that it began next year. I guess I should have examined the rule more closely before basing my opinion on that. Crazy that they passed legislation in April and went effective in August without giving schools the chance to adjust to it for at least one class in advance. In that case, Mullen's undersigning in 2016 really 17d us for about 5 classes overall. And OM is about to really, really be in a tight spot.

In this case, a couple of graduate transfers would be key. That looks to be the new loophole that allows a roster to be filled. If we could get 2-3 of them in this class, the numbers would be as right as we can get them...

Basically, if the 25 hard cap is already in effect, then I'm an idiot for putting any of that on JoeMo. Wouldn't be the first time I was and won't be the last.

It’s very rational. Like I’ve already explained a bunch of times — I don’t mind that they went to Ole Miss. My concern is their ability to leave us directly for a lateral move to Ole Miss and how such a move could totally 17 us in recruiting if it happened.

So if one of these guys is elite and lights the state on fire in recruiting — you are fine with him jumping straight to OM for the same job? I’m not.

Those contracts needed a short term non-compete. Hope they got them.

That is kind of like being scared of an attractive woman that had a boyfriend before you. Sure, there is a history there, maybe even love. That's why you put on a pair of tight pants and show the moose knuckle off every once in a while... Remind her why she is with you now... Let all her friends see it too.

If down the road, she decides to run back to Matt Luke's subtle breasts then so be it... You can't stop true love. Surely enough of her friends liked what they saw that you will be back in the saddle in no time.
