New recruiting strategy for Nebraska

I got an idea. In this NIL age where we can hardly compete with the big dogs and population centers anymore, we need a unique strategy in order to remain completive.

My idea is this: figure out how to get in on the kids the service academies are talking to and get aggressive, convince them to choose us over the other schools.

A - our few little NIL bucks could be appealing to kids who are otherwise going to join the military in order to play the game they love. Why not get paid to play at Nebraska?!

B - the service academies clearly recruit blue collar players as far as work ethic and team spirit is concerned. If Davids like Nebraska is now are going to beat the Goliaths of the world, we're going to need elite team effort and guys who give it their all with a chip on their shoulder.

C - these kids probably prioritize academics a bit more than the typical recruit and are generally more intelligent (aside from the Vanderbilt's and whatnot). Great for overall reputation as a school in the B1G, and great for on the field smarts as a team.

The big programs are going to dominate the portal, and even top end recruiting. G5 and populated weakling schools in the P5 will compete over the rest of the upper mid tier of recruits. I say we keep competing for those too, but go wherever Army, Navy, and AF goes to pluck those gems from them and refine them into NFL talent like Jojo.

Do that at an elite level, we might actually win a division championship and potentially conference on occasion!

Basically, become the king amongst the lesser by taking the highest quality rejects and the overlooked, coach and scheme well enough, compete with the big dogs. No need for triple option ball either - just develop those who desire developing more than anyone in the nation.

I’m confused. Are you suggesting we get players service academies are recruiting to walk on here, using NIL? It’s not like they are taking scholarship guys that programs like Nebraska want, if you want their best recruits on scholarship just offer and 99% of the time you can have them. What really makes the service academies successful is that they aren’t limited by the 85 scholarship limit and sometimes bring in that many kids in a single class.
