I'm just happy he's a dual threat. I thought Gronowski did a great job with his legs this year.
Duel threat qb's are the type of qb Kirk should have been recruiting his whole career at Iowa
Fans fall for the "dual threat" label every time.
To me, "dual threat" means a threat to be used in the passing and designed run games.
That's not the same as merely having the mobility to scramble. Because in today's game, pretty much every qb needs some mobility.
A lot of guys that aren't true duel threat, get mislabeled in high school, as they are good enough athletes to outrun most of their opponents (especially at smaller schools). Furthermore, high school coaches will use them in the designed run game, a lot more than what would apply at the college level.
Anyway, I'd be very surprised to see Santibanez in much designed run. Just based off the look of his build.
There really isn't as much designed qb run in college ball as people think there is. And I could see it even becoming less for guys getting big NIL, and not wanting to take the pounding.
Yes, Grono was a true dual threat player. I would love to be proven wrong, but I wouldn't expect to be seeing any more Grono's any time soon. Iowa may again have a true dual threat qb. But they very most likely, will not be pounding "A" gap with him.
Grono was a very unique player. Very Tebow-like, indeed
