Only Texas and Penn State can wear White helmets and still look badass. Ever since Jackie Sherrill put us in white helmets, I SWEAR we haven't played worth a ****. Why would a team be afraid of a non-Texas/State Penn team with white helmets?

The maroon helmets with maroon facemasks make us look like we're going to eat their mothers.

A mistake would have been leaving like it was. The new helmets is way better than that crap we had before but not as good as the 90's helmets.

I really don't have a problem with the logo. I like the MSJ better... but it's not bad...

I think it's a huge improvement. I love the Maroon face-mask.

Our uniforms are going to be much better simply by changing from Russell to Adidas, getting rid of the horrendous socks, and going to the maroon helmet.

I think most of us would prefer the interlocking MSU that Nike created or some variation of that logo, but absent of that, this looks pretty good.

Depends, is it just something to put on the football helmets? Or is it going to be logo the University goes to exclusively? If it is the latter, I say yes. Big mistake.
First of all, it isn't that big of change from the old MState. Second, even with the subtle changes it did nothing to improve the look of the logo. It isn't enough of change from the old to warrant all the expense and trouble. Like it was pointed out yesterday, the old MState is on very new building such as the Wade Depot and LT Building. Now, these new buildings have an old logo.

If it is just a helmet sticker......no big deal.

& you never know, it could go through a few more evolutions

The bigger picture is that we will have a updated / more cool / stylish uniform

From a design standpoint, I like the new M State banner logo better than its previous incarnation, however it just isn't a helmet logo.

All schools have several logos, and some are meant for stationary and signage, while others are meant for uniforms and apparel, etc. The banner logo doesn't do it for me on the helmets, but is an upgrade.

I like NutherT's version were the the bottom of the banner is outlined. Otherwise it is not bad.

just to update the old M-State logo. They threw out a bunch of options, unfortunately the administration picked the wrong one.

if this is going to be it on a maroon helmet, I hope we leave it alone for the next 50 years so that we can establish some kind of identity for our football team. We make major changes to our uniforms every time we change coaches.

To update? What about the longer-lived, more tradition-steeped baseball stacked MS? What about the old MSJ/interlocking MSU variations?

Who the 17 wants to worry about maintaining "brand equity" in a brand that nobody wants?

So as good as both hires were, tweaking but keeping this crappy "M State" logo is a misstep.

That said, the dark (true) maroon combined with the maroon facemasks look great. He's got his finger on the pulse there for sure.

This, however, is only a slightly more masculine cousin. I'd be perfectly fine with the new "M State" logo if they'd just nix the flapping banner part altogether, and just had STATE across the white block M.

But this is FAR better than what we've had.

because I am holding out hope that this was a logo trial balloon. I'm hopeful that GB listens to the fanbase on this one and restores interlocking of some description.

But weren't there also a bunch of new sketches that were essentially original designs? Like the little standing bulldog with the blanket over him (puke)? Those sucked too. I'm assuming the firm sucks. Much like the firm they hire for all the architecture on campus. Byrne has the right idea. Shoot high. Don't accept that MSU has/should/will always be mired in mediocrity. This philosophy should permeate every decision that is made athletically, academically, etc. It should certainly be extended to branding.

Hey - maroon - pick a PMS swatch and fricking go with it. Logo - hire a BADASS sports branding design firm and pay them what they deserve. And don't micromanage the design process.

Some of you guys are missing the point with the MS logo on the baseball caps. Baseball logos at most schools are different than the other sport logos. It is a great logo for State baseball and admittedly it does not look bad on the football helmets. But most traditional baseball guys want a logo distinctive to baseball. Leave the baseball logo to baseball. The JWS locking MSU was fine and maybe it will be back someday. But PLEASE leave the baseball logo to Cohen and his guys. It is what was and will be special again about Bulldog baseball.

But as long as we're recycling other sports' logos, I'd prefer it be the somewhat unique baseball logo than the basketball logo.

What do you bet this new "M State" logo makes its way to basketball?

Would be a decent moniker with which to poke fun at my hapless alma mater. Fortunately, the youth movement and the corresponding infusion of apparent competency at the head coaching position seems to portend that the word "hapless" may no longer be applicable.

I like the new and improved silver logo over the old maroon one. Let's face it, if we are going to be stuck with the M-State logo the AD might as well make it look acceptable.
