Models have backed off on the top end of strength and only a couple showing it getting to Cat 4. Still a dangerous storm at Cat 3.

Within the same hour the NWS upgraded our forecast to a tropical storm warning (from a watch) and lowered our wind speed projections (sustained and gusts) on their hourly weather graph from the previous forecast. I hope they're right but what am I missing here ?

The difference between a watch and a warning..

is how soon you are going to see tropical storm force winds. The storm is getting closer but not as strong as previously anticipated.

Now officially a 4. Pressures are bottoming out. If it continues she may well make a run at 5. Current track may well take it in/near Nola. Worst case scenario may be unfolding.

Hurricane Hunters just measured pressure at 936mb, which is absolutely terrifying. Ida keeps strengthening.

Our Katrina house was 18.5 feet above sea level and we got 2.5 feet of water inside. Needless to say this Ida stuff had me kinda nervous. Looks like we will avoid the serious stuff but I will send some money to Louisiana to help those people. We just had water damage but a lot of them are going to lose everything they couldn't stuff into their cars. Prayers sent.

Ida is similar to Michael - just keeps on getting stronger until the very last minute. And we know what Michael did.

Not to minimize the disastrous impacts of the storm - but Cantore was just on TWC in New Orleans, standing in the middle of the street doing his "pose" for high winds. A guy just casually strolled by between Jim and the camera, like there was no wind at all. Of course, the guy was no doubt shielded by the buildings but it still looked like typical TWC exaggeration.

The French Quarter has been around since 1718. I don't even know if it was flooded after Katrina or not. The French knew what they were doing.

Not minimizing this disaster, but imagine being Jim Cantore.
Every few months, you have to pause your endless workout routine to cover human tragedy while showing off your guns in your daughters t-shirt while being a bigger drama queen than she is.

Anybody noticed if you are a "world class douche" you're laughing all the way to the bank? Finebaum, Stephen A., Skip, Maddow, Hannity, Lemon, Clay Travis and the list goes on and on. Gas light the world and you're pulling down 5, 10, 30 mil a year and you don't even need to believe a word you say. Pretty good gig if you have absolutely no conscience.

He is. He was outside our hotel about 10 years ago when a snowstorm was going through DC. He was being a total dick to everyone including his cameraman.

A more concise way to say it. Clay is my new poster child. He used to be pretty funny making fun of fan bases and sports in general but that ain't getting you a place on 30A. Lead the way to ousting Schiano, coin "Carona Bros", say boobs on CNN, get some hits on Fox, sell your company and you do now.

Clay Travis, who started a Twitter mob to get Schiano fired, hates Twitter mobs. That guy is the worst. What he did to Schiano is almost criminal which made watching Pruitt fail so fun to watch.

Currently, he’s wearing a damn baseball helmet. Not an electric blue one with Weather Chanel logo on the front. No, this douche has done gone to Dicks and got himself a black batting helmet with neon green trim.

In terms of location, yes. But those are two very different storms. The one is much more concentrated. I think Mississippi may be spared from the worst, but I would not want to be in SE Louisiana right now.

Yep, let's face it, we can all be a bit hypocritical at times. As I said, actually thought he was sharp and pretty witty at one point, now it's just hot takes and let's get famous.

According to that, NO will be out of power for a while since a transmission tower collapsed into the river, which will also close river traffic for some time. Someone also reporting half the pumps are disabled. Diesel contamination?
Full disclosure, I have seen no confirmation of any of this.
TWC just confirmed the tower collapse.
