It sure the hell is. They can’t flop their way to wins anymore. A technical would have went great right there for that semi head fake flop but I’ll take the easy score.
Scheyer always was one of their greatest floppers. Not surprised to see him expand the game.
I hate the “throw your head back” (as if in a car accident) flop worse than the flop to the floor.
The flop rule should have helped clean up some of that stuff but it has been so inconsistent it hasn't helped at all. You have instances like that one with no call and then other times where a guy gets called when he kicks out his leg into a defender. It's even inconsistent on block/charges cases. There were several times against UCLA where guys tried to draw a charge and they let them play on or call it a block/charge and then they call it on Wheeler for basically the same thing they hadn't called it on all day.
Speaking of kicking a leg into a defender, if a defender is entitled to his space and jumps straight up on a ball fake and the offensive player jumps forward 2 feet into his space it shouldn't be a foul on the defense. Jaime Jacquez did it a couple of times the other day and it was called on the defender both times but he jumped forward by a lot both times to initiate the contact. IMO it should either be a no call or offensive foul for creating the contact.

It’s always been the ball carrier doing that crap, never seen a defender do that as in this case
Definitely one they can’t get right and should be an easy call. If player shooting the ball draws contact while jumping straight up, easy foul call. If they are jumping sideways or forward to draw contact, no call or offensive foul. But they rarely call it that way.
Agree. And it happens often!!! Too many of those contact plays are initiated by the offensive player, and should just be no calls (if no advantage is gained).
As for Wheeler, it didn't look like a flop where they go down with an arched back, it looked like when he got bumped (but not a charge) he was off balance enough that he went down. Should have been a no call.

On the flop call, it kills me when refs go to the monitor to review for contact to the head. 90% of the time it's an obvious flop yet they do nothing.
Just like block/charge, the rules are fine. Just can't get refs to correctly apply them.
