That is an encouraging article about our new DL coach. Thanks for posting!

How do you know?
I don’t. Not in any certain way of course. But it is underwhelming to me because we need guys who are proven college defensive line coaches who have proven they can recruit their asses off. This dude is an assistant d line coach in the NFL. When was the last time he had to recruit? What top flight high school programs has he developed relationships with?
We are not in a position any longer to **** around with unproven recruiters and guys who have never coached at a big boy college program before. We need home run hire coaches. Otherwise, next year will be Rhule’s last. There are so many holes to fill on defense it isn’t even funny. We needed a d line coach who could hit the ground running in recruiting the portal. Hopefully this guy will surprise me. I hope so. We need a baller for a coach at this position.

Here is this.

Butler came to Nebraska this season after spending six seasons as defensive backs coach with the Buffalo Bills from 2018 to 2023. Before his time in Buffalo, Butler was the secondary coach on Bill O’Brien’s Houston Texans staff from 2014 to 2017

He may just do fine in calling defensive plays agains't O'Brien in the bowl game.

In this day and age of recruiting staffs at major college programs, assistant coaches develop their relationships with the high school staffs after the fact. Nebraska already has a great number of their targets selected for the next couple of classes. Then when you have guys like Mozee, Simpson, Shorts, and Dvoracek already on staff, then it is just about introductions.

I like the hire. He has instant cred with D line players in the portal. Would have been nice to get a guy coaching a starting P4 all conference guy who enters the portal but that’s probably unlikely. This might be better

Hope he can get some guys like the d lineman from Missouri... Otherwise what does it matter if he's a fantastic coach if he doesn't have fantastic players to coach?

I think we already have guys who can start. A difference maker DT and Edge would be nice. Not sure there was any sitting college D line coach who could do a better job recruiting portal D linemen than Simpson and this guy. Mozee has already proven to be a factor with high schoolers.

Jamar Mozee will be the one to reel him in as he was his HS coach and as soon as word came out this morning that Nawaneri was in the portal, Mozee headed his *** to KC and that's been confirmed. With Bradden on board will help that much more as Nawaneri is a Chiefs fan. This dude is a monster at 6'7 255lbs with room to put on more weight and not lose his speed.

I hope he does because next year he won't be starting with Ty and Nash in the middle.
Not that they're in the same universe, but I feel NU had a bit of a defensive letdown when Suh left.
Those are a couple of damn good run stoppers we have to replace.

meh. zero teams have the 'portal era' figured out. If you were hoping for another Indiana situation, good luck. not happening anywhere else anytime soon on that level. Someones gonna try, and they are gonna fail.
Arizona State has a 1st round bye in the first college football playoff. Nebraska could be in the playoff, this year if our coaches had done a good job.

Who?? RVP, Lenhardt and Jeudy? Not bad, but not ideal. How about two deep? Does RVP even have a legit backup at this point?

Ty even though listed in a 3 man front as a DE is still a DT and is the best we've had since Suh and Crick period. Kept telling people for a couple of months that I don't think people realize how huge of a loss losing Ty and Nash were gonna be at seasons end as we have no one in that room that is their size or caliber. Those 2 especially Nash before his knee injury that he played through the season with basically manhandeld OLs by themselves. What I would love to see, but will never happen now is for someone like Princewill pulling himself out of the portal because of Bradden but alas a I see that Trio of Butler, Gaybor and Princewill as starters in Tallahasse next year as 1 they already know White's system and 2 those 3 are better than what they currently have at their respective positions. One thing we may have to worry about is, Coop poaching some of our best DBs as he's the one that got them here along with Simpson. The good thing about Snow coming onboard as AHC is it give him the freedon to assist with the defense without having to do it as DC which he doesn't want to anymore. He's 72. I hope he doesn't kick the bucket like Smilin' Mikes buddy did while on the coaching staff and he was in his 70s as well! That was actually really sad and he was a really good coach.

We need at least one DT in the portal. We have multiple guys on the roster that we don't know about and an incoming freshman in Terry who some think will play right away. I'll also note that Benning said that he thinks Davis might return. Is he a big edge or will he grow in to a DT.

I think an article I just read said he was a head coach in Florida. Unless I read it wrong. Someone posted the link ITT.

I won't lie I am kinda liking the idea of these young guys on the recruiting trail. Guy like Mozee in KC, Simpson in Florida, Shorts in the SEC region, Dvoracek in the the 500, and I THINK the new DL coach has ties in Florida as well.

I actually am liking the assistant hires. I initially had questions about the DC hire. I'm still a bit worried tbh but the Snow hire helps tremendously with that.

I don't feel anything like I did when Satterfield was announced as OC lol. So that's a good thing..

I don't mind the Dline coach. Young and will be eager to prove himself. Ties to South Florida and KC. Rhule clearly wants to recruit KC and Miami. I imagine Mozee knows KC area football in and out and now he can bring a Chief with him. We would also be sending 2 former south Florida HC's down to Miami to recruit. An area that very fruitful for us last year.

I can't remember pulling so many promising recruits out of an area and having multiple make an impact as true freshman. Need to hit Miami hard this year.

Terry or Davis? The other option for a NT is Maciejczak. I know he's a guard and was a co#2 on the depth chart but they liked him on the D line when he started but we needed a big nasty guard. I think he could be a Nash clone on the D line.

This is what I'm talking about about. Say what you will about the hires between the DL coach, Mozee, and Simpson if these guys can hit their recruiting areas hard and get some dudes that "coaching" thing becomes a bit easier.

Shavers, McGahee, Barney, Tarver, CB (name I forget) and add Mozee and the big OL in this class.

Keep bringing in talent like that. I know we talked about some of the bad coaching we have had but we are lacking "dudes" as well. I've learned that "players make plays". You can't coach that. Put em in position to make them but can't do it for them.

Go watch Oregon or OSU or Texas or any of those top teams. On offense those kids are DUDES. They not making these plays because of some dramatic coaching "chops". You see Texas WRs? If so you know why they didn't think twice about giving us their leftovers lol.

Get us some playmakers and let Dana out them in positions and I THINK guys like Barney and Mozee will make those plays.

And a good chunk of Oregon's dudes have been bought in the portal. Their entire starting defensive backfield are transfers. Gabriel and that lightening fast WR are transfers etc. Oregon money to spend would be fun.

Well with Texas, maybe even their scraps are pretty good. Manning is probably a Heisman finalist next year and he's sitting on the bench. I think he's already better than Ewers at this point.

Van Poppel is the supposed replacement for Ty, but Davis plays the same spot. They list Davis at 255 but he looks way bigger. But not sure he could get big enough to play NT.

I think people are forgetting our starting front 4 is still intact for next year. RVP, Jeudy, Lenhardt, McGahee. Sherman would start the bowl game. We obviously need depth. I realize Butler was the starter, but Lenhardt has a lot of experience.

I thought VCJ had potential but he didn't seem like a guy who was going to win post season awards. There's some potential with some of the young guys to provide depth. With some of them it's going to be about spring and summer and the work they're willing to do.

He’s coached a lot of pro bowlers. Kids trying to make it to the NFL, a defensive staff with a lot of NFL experience, doesn’t hurt one bit. A lot of ties in the KC area and in Florida.
