Seven of eleven starters on offense are either true frosh RS frosh or sophomores. Only two of those (Stille and Bootle) on the D, but but a total of nine of the defensive depth chart list vs. seven Seniors.

This is not a situation of it's always darkest before it's pitch black. This team could be much better by season's end.

I'm hopeful we can play spoiler through the rest of the year. This team showed me some good things this weekend and I'm more optimistic for this year than I have been since the Colorado game

Can someone summarize what the changes were?
The only things that jumped out to me were Lighbourn is now #2 punter, Farmer is still starting at center, and Young remains the starter at linebacker. Mazour is now listed as a backup receiver. Did I miss anything else that was odd?

Wonder if lightbourn will still do kickoffs? Pickering listed as#1 PK but that would be for field goals. Caleb has been doing ok at kickoffs imo

Getting more excited about this team long term. Places like OLine and Safety are losing a lot but across the board we have a lot of underclassmen playing.

Most interesting change to me is Mazour in the slot. New Duck-R?

Here is who we are losing off the current 2-deep:
  • Stanley Morgan
  • Jerald Foster
  • Tanner Farmer
  • Cole Conrad
  • Devine Ozigbo
  • Freedom
  • Peyton
  • D. Young
  • Luke Gifford
  • Aaron Williams
  • Antonio Reed
  • Tre Neal

I think Mazour has been working at Duck-R. That RB/Slot WR situation is a little more interchangeable than people seem to understand. Doesn't really matter what you call it, that guy is going to be motioned all over the place between lining up in the backfield and splitting out wide.

Someday, anyhow. When the guys can wrap their minds around it.

I think it is a good spot for him. I just have a feeling he is going to come up with some big plays for us.

  • Stanley Morgan - We will definitely miss him. He's a solid player.
  • Jerald Foster - Not a loss. Talks a lot, not a lot of performance.
  • Tanner Farmer - See Foster
  • Cole Conrad - Dylan Utter is the worst, but he might be 2nd in our all time history of Center.
  • Devine Ozigbo - Great kid, but excited for the future. Glad he stuck it out, but not a huge loss.
  • Freedom - Underwhelming career.
  • Peyton - Who?
  • D. Young - Bye
  • Luke Gifford - I think he is just in a bad position for his skill set. Plays hard, but hopefully our talent will match the position in the future.
  • Aaron Williams - Plays well at times. Hope we get more athletic here.
  • Antonio Reed - Underwhelming
  • Tre Neal - Very underwhelming.
I just don't see a lot of lost production. In fact, I hope we continue to get the youngsters reps in their positions because this group as a whole has been bad. Not saying they are bad people, just not real good players at the University of Nebraska.

Morgan and Gifford and Aaron Williams will be the biggest losses and only Morgan Stanley will be harder to replace..

Safety position is looking thin after this year. We need JoJo to get healthy. And hopefully CJ Smith and Cam Jones can step up next year. I thought they would be good enough to get some snaps as true freshmen, considering how mediocre our safeties are this year.

Some personnel issues that will need addressed:

OL: In a perfect world Bland comes in and starts at center and we get a JUCO tackle that we can start opposite Jaimes, sliding Farniok inside. But what if we strike out on a JUCO OT and/or Bland decommits? Yikes
WR: JD is back and he is the man, but who else? Really need to find some outside WR's, hopefully some that can take the top of the defense.
DL: Alot of guys with some talent, but we need to get bigger and stronger, also need to develop that true NT, C. Davis is overmatched in there.
OLB: Need to find someone that can rush the passer.... bad.
ILB: Will Honas be back and 100%? Barry is a stud, but a serious lack of depth.
Safety: Who will play opposite of D. Williams. The three Sr's are nothing special, but they have gotten almost all of the game reps.
CB: Can someone step up, please. Bootle is OK, but the other side has been a mess.

Aaron Williams has done very little for me- our young safeties can and should be an upgrade.

I agree with the rest. The OL normally would not be missed given their lack of production, but we’re not sure we can even find 5 guys to play next year.

Will Honas get a medical redshirt since he was only available for 4 games?

Exactly. Nobody was crying bitter tears when Decker quit football but you miss him now, don't you? Suggesting that Foster and Farmer won't be painful losses is probably wishful thinking.

True. We lose three interior OL, none of which are anything to write home about, but as of right now, we have one guy ready to replace the three.

Agree with your assessment but do you actually think there’s a better option? Do you think they’re playing them because they’re Sr?

Frost just aid that Juergens is going some at center now. I won't be surprised if we see Juergens at starting center next fall and Bland at either tackle or guard. I think we're going to get more athletic in our O line very quickly. That said, Foster and Farmer have brought a ton of experience to our O line and I do think both of those guys play hard and care.

We will be fine on the inside. I would like to see us be able to move Farniok inside and find another OT to take his place outside. IF Juergens works out at center like Frost thinks he will we could be pretty darned good in the O line.

Wow. I read this "we trust our coaches" mantra all the while reading the complaints of who he is playing at certain positions. Get D out of there and put someone else in, they are better and we know this how?

Jurgens is going from TE to center and is already being talked about as an NFL 10 year veteran. He hasn't played a single snap at that position yet. Amazing. I think we just need to move a few more guys around, they will all be AA's when we are done.

Oh, and this team has the stench of the past staffs when we know that Frost turned the roster over by over 50 new people. That's 50 people who had no clue who Riley even was.

Jurgens may well be a good center if indeed it all works out but really crown him with the accolades is without merit. But then, the same people said we had sure wins over many of the teams that have beaten us already.

If anything, the move to center should tell us there is an endless search to find someone, anyone in the OL. Then people gripe about Foster and Farmer with absolutely no one behind them the coaches trust. Don't you think if there was someone equally as good they would have received some PT?

My goodness.
