I do see the talent level improving in the freshman and sophomore ranks, but I'm tired of hoping the opposing team fumbles the snap or stumbles in the backfield. Opposing QBs always seem to have career days with zero pressure and opposing running backs find massive running lanes. Cosgrove wasn't really worse than what we see now.

It's not just the defense, it's the whole package of offense, defense and special teams. The defense gives up points and yards because the offense is so bad keeping the defense on the field too long. They're demoralized every time the offense screws up and throws an interception or fumbles. Not praising the defense at all, just saying it's the total package of schemes that don't work in the B1G. Nice experiment but it failed.
