Do you really think it matters who he hirss? Matt will be terminated in 1-2 years. And everyone still has hope? Yoiu know how this is going to play out. And I am sober. Man up and quit being so blind. The dude is a ****** coach, a ****** hire, and everything else. Gonna have a winning season in year 3 with the easiest schedule in 30 years? I doubt it. The dude is a loser and has no clue what it takes to win in this day and age. Keep your homer-kool-aide flowing. Matt Rhule? LOL.
Then tell us who you would hire right now

I could ask you the same, how'd you feel about HCMR?

I wouldn't of hired him (White). I'm not saying that person can't have success. What I'm saying is I'd rather have someone that has had success at the level that I'm asking him to coach.

And regardless of who they hire, I'm rooting for the guy.

I was lukewarm about Tony White. But I did see a couple of his games at Syracuse and they played well on defense. So that was promising. I’ll say I felt good about TW, but he was probably a little better than I expected. I know we expect all our coaches to be great, we’re Nebraska, but TW had us playing remarkably better defense from game 1. I don’t know what his ceiling is if he actually stuck with a program longer than 2-3 years? But he can definitely turn around a defense fast and I expect FSU to have a top 20-30 defense next year.

He very well could be sober. He’s an iowa fan and that type of grammar and spelling is elite among his kind. He also could be piss drunk on Barton’s vodka, bored and depressed cause his sister left him for his cousin and has nothing better to do than post here? Really no telling what those weirdos are capable of…🤷‍♂️

I will be disappointed if it is Butler.

1 year of being DC in his life, and it was 12 years ago. And it wasn’t good.
College coaching is much different than NFL coaching, and often doesn't translate.
His unit was the weakness on D this year, after being the strength before he got here.

I don’t know or care what Rhule told Butler to get him to come here in August. He needed to fill a position at a bad time to be hiring.

Now we are making a big decision that will impact this team’s trajectory for years, and this is the time of year that everyone is theoretically available. Linking those two decisions is a huge mistake.

If we hired Symons I will be shocked. This hire wouldn’t really have a prior connection with Matt. He’d be Matt’s furthest degree of separation. That’s not like MR. So it’s very interesting.

Matt is a very insecure coach. So on one hand this hire would be scary because it seems like he’s desperate. On the other hand; it’s a good hire and the right thing for Matt to do. He has got to stop doing the same **** over and over again acting like his methods cure cancer. It doesn’t. He’s been a ****** HC most of his coaching days. Very bad so far @ Nebraska. he’s kept his same ****** rolodex much of his career.

So when we start to see new blood come in, I question has he finally seen the light or is he just trying to please us because he really is a con-man?

You are already hearing fans claim this is a “reset” for Matt so not too long until we hear “next year or two don’t count”. Always deferring the truth and always buying time

But I do like the hire a lot. I just hope our coach has a plan to play to win games and not a plan to play us.

If Rhule strikes out on his other/better options I guess Butler would be ok? I hope that doesn’t happen. But… if Rhule’s outright picks Butler over other possible options. I’ll be pretty disappointed and frankly, pissed off.

Did he have any connection to White when he hired him? Any connection to Dana other than coaching against him and thinking he’s a good coach?

White played for Matt at UCLA right?

DH is further separation, head coaching connection in the BIG- 12. Those guys generally are close group.

This hire is like no ties.

Imagine this last season played out exactly the same, except Cooper never got fired. And let’s ask some questions.

Would Butler be on the radar for our DC opening?
Would he get an interview?
Why entertain the notion of somebody with no college or DC experience in the last decade for our college DC job?

The answer to all those questions are of course not.

If he’s the guy, it’s because Rhule doesn’t have a backbone. He just hit the easy button.

My problem with Butler is his career has basically been stagnant for a guy who clearly wants to run a defense. He didn't get another DC gig after PSU and no one internally promoted him either. Now, after seeing how ****** our pass d was this year, I'm beginning to question if he was nudged out by Buffalo.

they hired an outside for the job he wanted . It's uncommon for a guy who was passed over for a job stays with that franchise. It's also unusual I believe for a franchise to promote a position coach from within to DC. Maybe it happens more than I think but it seems usually if somebody hires a position coach to be their DC they go outside the family. Who knows. All we can do is hope for the best if he's the guy. Hiring Simpson and becomes even more important if we hire Butler IMO. A stud recruiter DL coach would also be nice.

With SMU in the playoffs, we won’t be hiring their DC until they are eliminated. Which will likely be on Dec 21.

It’ll be buttlicker I mean Butler. And that’ll be a joke
In this era, I would hope we find an experienced college defensive coordinator who likely will bring at least a couple good players and assistant coaches with him. I’m guessing Rhule would prefer that as well or Butler wouldn't just be the interim.

Let's take a pause from trashing Rhule and have some commentary about Simmons' defensive philosophy? His strengths, weaknesses?

Thats the type of guy we need

He was a DC in 2013. He hasn't been a DC since. That is extremely concerning. Not one team in college or the pros was willing to give that guy a shot as a DC again. Over a span of 10 years. Throw in an atrocious year by our secondary.

I honestly would rather have Dvoracek or however you spell his name. At least we can pretend he'll be good.

“no he didn’t” have ties to White? you sure about that? Cause I think you are wrong but nice try.
Rhule was Linebacker coach at UCLA when Tony was a senior
They liked each other hung out a couple times that's about it from my understanding
Otherwise really never was much of a huge connection

Rhule brought in a guy that's been a successful head coach elsewhere, who has about 40 more career wins and a better career winning % as a HC, in order to run the offense.

Bringing in a guy that could replace you in a year is not the move of an insecure coach.
