Not really a new commit but it sounds like he "could" come in a year early......

"Floyd said he took several online classes this summer in order to graduate early. It remains unclear if he will redshirt this upcoming season or play with the Huskies. "

If the kid has the body to play high Division 1 basketball, and it appears that he does, I don't care how old he is. That being said, I thought the same thing about Steven Enoch when he came in as a 17 year old, but mentally he was not ready. Although he had a great body at 17, Enoch didn't have great instincts or basketball IQ. He lacked court sense. My hope is that Floyd has a high IQ on basketball to go with the body. We will see. But he looks like a depth piece behind Cole, AJ, Gaffney, Hawkins and Diggins. This is a very deep backcourt and, incredibly, they have 4 kids who can credibly play point guard if you include AJ!!!!! So realistically, how many minutes will he get with all those other guys demanding minutes?

Speaking of I guess it says as much about our former HC or his lack of, i.e. coaching, as it does of Enoch. When a kid who didn't have a clue at Uconn is getting an actual shot at the NBA...see Bucks (15/4/2)
P.S> did you watch the Championship of the Peach Jam recently ? Floyd did most of directing and running the team for winners. He was a solid leader, certainly no Alterique, with way more size & BB IQ.

Coaching was possibly a factor, but I think Enoch was a slow to develop player, even somewhat at Louisville, although he did develop. To me, he was a somewhat underachieving player at both UConn and at Louisville, as compared to what appeared to be his physical potential. Now that he is in the pros, he may develop further, as he had a long period of time to develop in college and did develop some.

A lot of times you see guys with great bodies and they just never become as good as you think they will be. Another UConn big guy who I thought would be better was Souleymane Wane. He was certainly a very good backup center on the 1999 national champion team, but he looked to me like he could have been a dominant player. At times he showed incredible moves, executed with a huge and agile body. Defenders bounced off him like ping pong balls. While a solid player, he was just never as good as I thought he would be. I am not sure if he was a guy who lived, ate and breathed hoops. My impression was he played basketball because he was good at it and it was a way to get educated. Not sure he even wanted to be a pro basketball player. And the reality is that not every guy has a Michael Jordan like drive to succeed in basketball.

UConn had some other players who looked lost on the Court from Day 1 under Calhoun. Covington Cormier, Monquencio Hardnett, Darius Smith. Hardnett couldn't handle the rock or else was too fast for his handling ability and always looked out of psynch with his dribble. There were so many other guys, and most of these guys left and never amounted to anything elsewhere.

True, but none of those guys were a 4 star/ Top 60 guys like Enoch, they all were low end or Juco reaches by JC or ended up in Juco. Ollie was the only guy who could bring in 5 star guys like Danny Hamilton or Jalen Adams (or Gilbert #34 too) and turn them into busts/ who are struggling to make a living as a pro. (also see Bouknight ranked #84 making it into the lottery, now that Uconn has a real coach again)

This is great news. It seems to me the roster is loaded and there may be too many guys so that someone has to redshirt, but as we have seen that sometimes has a way of working itself out through injuries, poor performance, lack of readiness. If not, redshirt status isn't the worst thing in the world, maybe not for Floyd, but for whomever is not ready. If they are all ready, then the team seems like it has more capable rotation bodies than in many, many years. Regarding Floyd, he does look ready body wise, we will need to see how PT shakes out. This should be fun. Hurley has a problem lots of coaches would like to have.
