It says on ESPN that Alabama is eyeing Pitino.JR. This is crazy they would go for him instead of Marshall. I guess Marshal told them no. Lil Ricky P is like Louisville. Having a different coaching job every two years like the conference jumping Louisville does every few years.

I can see how Marshall turns them down, but my only thing is, if that money was truly on the table for a coach (the 6 year/31.5M), you would think they might have other candidates before RPJr.

The SEC sure doesn't need another Pitino. But I think it is inevitable that Pitino Jr.'s last name will land him at this level, whether at Alabama or something comparable. From a competitive standpoint, they were better off with Grant.

Probably a good pickup for Alabama if they get him. He's more likely to take it than Marshall. If he does well, he will move up from there.

Won't he bolt for UL as soon as Daddy retires though?

Would anyone be shocked if Billy D left, than lil Ricky leaves Minnesota for Gainesville?

Bama is not a destination no matter the price. I think their best days were under CM Newton when he had Leon Douglas.

Do some of the posters here and evidently the Bama AD realize what his is record is at Minny. He is 43-28 overall and 14-22 in the B1G the lasr 2 seasons and 18-14 in one season at FIU. He might turn out to be a solid coach but w/o his last name dude wouldn't be considered for job at MEAC school with his record.

I've never thought Alabama could get Marshall, but would think they could do better than this Pitino who's record at a major program isn't proven yet. Perhaps he'd do a good job there, but perhaps not as well. I'm also not convinced UL would want him if his dad decided to step down which I doubt he's going to do this year. Some interesting things going on in the college coaching shuffle. I sure hope UK doesn't find itself in the mix.

I'd heard that if Plan A fails, Pitino Jr would be on the list - primarily because C.M. Newton is involved with the coaching search.

Good point and I suppose that's possible. Rick has to leave first. Who knows? He may coach for another 8-10 years. That said, UL might not want Richard. Alabama will never be a destination basketball job. They can expect a coach who has success will leave to the next big opportunity.

Louisville won't be interested in him if he doesn't do better. They were ready to run his daddy out of town until his run in 2012.

I think he has a pretty low opinion about Bama ability to land a quality coach AND he's wants to promote his friendship with 15 Seconds.

Alabama AD flew to Witchita Monday and interviewed Marshall, offering him the job. I had not heard word or leak or rumor if he was or was not going to take the job. They are all in on Marshall, but obviously have a plan B list. Not heard jr.'s name til now.

the guy that said Pinto Jr was on the plan B list said that Bama has a low opinion of Murray's coach because "they've been there, done that" and his time at Bama was unremarkable.

I can't imagine taking Pinto Jr over Murray's coach....

Pitino, Jr is a high risk hire. 3 years of head coaching experience that is average at best. Name certainly means something in this case.

That would be something else for the State of Alabama to have a carpetbagging Catholic and Jew running the two basketball teams.

I don't know why on God's green earth Bama doesn't reach out to Rick Stansbury

He surely can do better at that school than Rick Jr or any other of these guys (other than Marshall) they seem to be courting

One thing I will say, is it's fairly obvious the sec DOES care about basketball and is trying to pit itself back where it was.

Man the sec is going to be a heavy hitter in the coming years.

Jon Rothstein mentioned this the other day. RP Jr seems to be a legitimate candidate. This guy sounds like the coaching equivalent of a 1 and done only for a coach it's 2-3 years and move on.

I think he's been on their list from the beginning...

The guy has the pedigree, coaching is in his blood...he has the resume having coached under two hall of famer's and multiple title winners...and now after FIU and Minny he has the HC experience...

He could tap into some talent rich areas with Bama, and be able to do some things with a top tier P5 institution behind him...

Would be the perfect stepping stone to get him to an elite program, maybe even blue blood a few years down the road...Syracuse job is going to open up in a few years...IU could come open...UNC may need somebody to rebuild them, like father like son...

and I've said it before i'll say it again...if he does something at Bama, Minny should he chose to stay, or anywhere else...he'll be on the list to replace coach Cal...

I think that is overselling him - he'd have to do alot at Bama or Minny - like more than one final four.
