I have followed RU hoops for 35 years and don’t really complain about the refs. I honestly feel that the integrity of this game is in question. I have never seen anything like what happened to Miles today. Absolute disgrace.

Me too! I always get mad when our posters complain about the refs, but today was a disgrace.

Best of Luck,

Refs were calling BS fouls. That’s why RU decided to go to the fade away 3 pt shots to protect the OSU players.

Integrity of the game... took the words right outta my mouth. People will talk about calls evening and how it should be expected for the home team to get the calls, but the wide disparity and glaring inaccuracy of some of these calls should really be addressed. What happened to Miles today is just a travesty. I'm not one to criticize the refs usually, and there were definitely other factors that contributed to this loss, but come on! Stephen Bardo talks about it every time he does one of our games... particularly the phantom calls against Johnson.

The number of fouls called was pretty close to even. I actually feel they were trying to foul Myles out of the game knowing the game would be over if they did. Covered it up by evening out the fouls. I am not sure I really believe that but I think it was that obvious that someone should investigate.

Yeah they evened up the fouls at the end; At one point Johnson and Duocore had 9 fouls between them and there 2 big men had one foul come on every time we took it to the hoop we get bodied and not a single foul called just a joke

+1. I usually don’t believe in playing the ref card, in fact adhere to the play so that refs aren’t a factor, but this one was bs.

Totally agree. The phantom fouls in the 2nd half on Johnson totally changed the flow of the game. I, never complain about the refs but this was so one-sided and so obvious. I agree it seemed like a make up fouls at the end when the game was decided as well. This game was a total disgrace by the refs.

Brad...same here

I have been watching RU hoops for 40 years and for the first time ...I said the officials stole the game from Rutgers

Watching and going to RU games for 45 years - that was as bad as it gets. Usually when a team gets hosed some of the calls are skewed but there are some elements of controversy to them. That was not the case on at least 5 of tonights critical calls. There was clear intent by the refs - it was obvious and disheartening to watch college sports being corrupted.

I don’t think there is clear intent. I think the most likely explanation is incompetence.

it’s a difficult job and they are insulated from criticism and consequences when they do it poorly. It’s a recipe for the shitshow that we see so often.

See...here is my problem

A basic definition of a foul is Contact thar either
-provides an advantage by the player making the contact
And/or
-provides a disadvantage to the players receiving the contact

Go use that definition on the 5 fouls Myles was whistled for and tell me how many were a foul on Myles

When you get officiating that is that bad...it warrants being called out

It needs to be called out. This was so blatantly bad. It needs to stop.

I’ll tell you what bothers me the most about this one. If Myles 2nd and 4th bogus fouls weren’t called there’s almost no question RU wins this game comfortably.

OSU was getting taken to town. Until Johnson and Doucoure were forced to stop defending due to the foul trouble, OSU couldn’t score at all. They are clearly not a good shooting team and they were only able to penetrate once our guys were playing in severe foul trouble. The RU offense is much improved, but it’s much more effective off of missed baskets than made shots. When OSU stopped having as many empty possessions that impacted the RU offense too (even before Young got hurt). If Myles 5th foul was his 3rd foul (at least the last one was on ball - it was a bad call but wouldn’t have stood out if it had been foul number 3 as it should’ve been rather than the call he fouled out on) the whole second half would’ve been different.

Exactly... where was the advantage or disadvantage? Myles is just standing there on the 4th and 5th... I need to go back and watch the 1st 3 fouls and see how legit they were.

After that cheesy 4th the ref should be giving Myles a longer leash. Instead he calls that BS on him to foul him out? Come on man let the players decide the game. It was the classic big man I'm standing here not moving hands up not fouling mode and he still got called for it when it provided no advantage or disadvantage to either player

It will a 20+ point destruction when they return to the RAC...hope we can get Cliff back, Myles & ‘Douc can defend normally (without worrying about zebras who called a game like they should be wearing other stripes)...the team was playing comfortably ahead, as they were the last few games. The announcers were saying RU had too many weapons. So the only way to stop that was with the whistle.. next time team will be able to respond better, as we still could have pulled it out..but valuable experience for tournament time..

yes
Not just a marginal call here and there in key situations, but outright sabotage from the beginning..

Right. The story coming into this game once the Cliff injury was announced was that we had a super short rotation of bigs to work with. Myles and Duke then each had three 3 fouls by halftime.

The message here was loud and clear, if you contest a shot on the interior, they’re going to call a foul on you, and once Ohio State got that message they exploited it and the game was over. Watch our guys on the defensive end by the middle of the second half, that’s not how we play defense, and it’s not how we rebound. You can see how frustrated they were on that end of the floor, and at a certain point it bled into what we were doing on the offensive end of the floor too. This game was refball at its absolute worst, and I don’t blame our guys for being frustrated.

Can’t wait for Jan. 9th. Rutgers by a thousand.

Another point for the incompetence explanation: that ref seems to be universally hated among Big Ten fans (look at the Big Ten thread on the main rivals basketball board).
