Definitely! How fast time flys, growing up I knew a lot of WWII vets now there are very few left. I happen to meet a gi that was on Pearl Harbor that day. He wasn’t on a ship was by one of the buildings and just missed getting shot from a zero. He said he still had nightmares that was 1984 in sure he deceased now82 years ago today. Never forget.
That generation was something else . My Grandfather built landing craft during the war and four of his brothers served , one in each branch of the services. They all made it back and I heard a few stories .The best/worse involved Uncle Amos fighting with the Marines ,He killed the Japanese up close. I met a Ranger fighting in the jungles in Burma , he said his first kill was face to face. My grandfather had a prejudice towards Japanese people decades later , which I understood.
Greatest generation of all time. They must be rolling over in their graves to see what our country and the younger generation has turned into. Sad.

they wouldn't recognize our country, at all. They'd be wondering what they'd fought for.
They are/were in fact the greatest generation, and we've completely squandered their sacrifices.
Pearl Harbor definitely on my bucket list along with beaches of Normandy. Have seen the Enola Gay in D.C. Have been to Hiroshima. Both worth the visit. Hiroshima a plus as Miyajima is a 10 minute ferry ride.

My grandfather fought in WW2. He was a giant in action and his generation should be idolized for their sacrifice.82 years ago today. Never forget.
My father was in the Army Air Corps. I had an uncle who was in the Navy. I also lost a relative in the battle of Guadalcanal and another taking Okinawa.
My uncle was on Iwo Jima a great uncle was stationed on the Aleutian Islands for awhile, dad had a cousin that was with Pattons third army the did A 180 and helped turn the battle of the bulge. Dad had his physical taken and was at fort leonardwood to be sworn in the day the Japanese surrendered they were told to go home the war was over and he was never called back for the Korean War
I think they are. Stanley, the Ranger I met on veterans day 10 years ago was like a Hero to me. I told everybody at the store we were at and posted our pic on Facebook.
Just think that they had kids lying about age to get in , some that couldn't get in committing suicide.
I mean, I was a sailor. It hurt like hell when the US Cole was attacked by terrorists off the coast of Yemen. When I was in, all I could think of was that I didn't want to be the one to let something like that go on while I was on watch. I believe 17 sailors lost their life on that attack. We take our ships seriously. If you were stationed on a ship, it was YOUR ship. I can't imagine the horrors that these heroes went through.
Truthfully it doesn't compare with the horror of 9/11. Pearl Harbor was a legitimate military target and the US was really already defacto committed to war with both Japan and Germany and it was just a matter of what would be the trigger. The US was never going to sit idle and let Germany and Japan conquer Europe and Asia respectively.
I have the highest respect for the people of Japan and they are a critical ally against some really ****** governments not far from their shores. I also really respect and remain thankful for the sacrifices of our veterans that served in WWII and in all our wars.

I've always heard it worked too well and Japan wasn't ready to follow up on it. Yamamoto wanted our Pacific fleet and air bases on Hawaii to be crippled, but had no follow-up invasion planned. Had they taken Hawaii we'd have been backed up to our West Coast right off the bat and that could have made a massive difference in the outcome of the war.
I'm definitely a WWII buff as well, but I just don't think I could do Auschwitz. So much death and cruelty on such a massive scale. And all based on nothing but utter lunacy.
