Well, since you decided to go ahead and brag about "swatting" another poster, you do come off as an arrogant jackass based on the totality of your posts in this thread. Regardless of what you think about Flood's e-mail and/or question, there is no need to refer to him as a "highly paid gym teacher".

And common courtesy generally dictates that you respond to a direct question being asked or issue being raised by a university colleague without immediately running to your superiors, unless it is outside your scope or authority to do so. Whether that was the case here, is being investigated. Now carry on.

This post makes zero sense, which is pretty much par for the course for you whenever you talk about anything other than football. How in God's name do the "rules of polite society" suggest one should be honored to be contacted by another employee at ones place of employment, whether that person's contact is a breach of propriety or not? Are you familiar with the meaning of the common phrase "to be honored"? The professor didn't receive a freaking medal. He didnt get a congratulatory email from an esteemed senior colleague in his field. He didn't get a phone call from.the president. He got an email from a guy who is, in the grand scheme of things, basically a highly paid gym teacher. No, I don't think the "rules of polite society" dictate he should be "honored" by that contact. Any such "rules" would probably call for little more than common courtesy (assuming the email was not instead seen as a breach of decorum, as appears to be the case ).

Also if your arrogance allows it, you should check out Kyle Flood's personal history and more than likely you will learn most people ( leaving members of this board and sports fans out of it) would be far more honored to meet a man like Kyle Flood than a self important fool ( like you) that feels his position in life makes him a more important person than a decent man like Kyle Flood is.

It is not the position a person holds that should be cause for disrespect or respect, but the way they carry themselves should be the reason.

I never said NCAA rules prohibit it. NCAA rules say coaches and athletic department member must follow rules set up by their university. If Rutger policy is no emailing professors then the NCAA says Flood must follow that.

So your telling me for example there is no drinking allowed at BYU. If a coach drinks at a party he has broken BYU institutional rules. Therefore BYU is now subject to the NCAA rule "lack of institutional control". Do you see how stupid this sounds. That's because it is. This is exactly what you state the NCAA does. It does not.
The NCAA sets the guidelines they require you to follow. If a school deems additional rules should be implemented that exceed those of the NCAA than that's up to each school. But in no way does the NCAA get involve if you break an institutional rule that far exceeds their rule. It's only if you break their rule. Why would any school then install rules that exceed the NCAA's if they could potentially open themselves up for persecution. Your theory is completely wrong. Read the NCAA guidelines just don't spout stuff out.

Interesting. Without wasting the time to look up his departmental affiliation, my guess ever since he began posting was that he was a member of either the English or Poli Sci Dept.

During my undergraduate studies at RU and then throughout grad school, more often than not I found profs from those two departments to be the ones who came off as the most pompous intellectual snobs. -Clearly the tradition continues.

I've never been contacted by a coach regarding a grade. Academic support staff...yes on occasion. As a prof. I do not have a problem being contacted by academic support to make an inquiry as to how a student is doing. Don't mind being asked if a grade could be improved or not. It would not make me happy to be contacted by a coach (particularly the head coach) - given their perceived power/celebrity - it could be seen as using undue influence. Also, faculty are not part of the program at Penn State or anywhere else. Not a good turn of phrase by Flood. Although I don't love him as our coach, I think a reprimand is in order, not a firing.

Sorry, not reading the rest of the thread. STFU- I usually stay away from Prd State references but don't ever talk about Flood's integrity as a coach/man and in anyway use anything at PSU as an example.
