Certainly hope he keeps improving and the timeline for complete recovery accelerates.

Great update today.... He is able to move his arms now not a whole lot but enough to show a lot of improvement. He is trying to talk but with the trach in his neck he is not able to. He is awake enough now to actually be pissed off enough that his wife had to leave to get something to eat to get away from him. Hahahahhaha. Best news I have had today.

Great news. I'm glad to see he's agitated. That surely means he's improving. Lol. Thanks for the update. We'll continue to pray for a speedy recovery.

Agitation in this instance is a very good sign. Can't be pissed off if you're completely unaware of your environment! Sounds like the first solid steps in his recovery.

Jester that is understandable but updating both was getting weird. Lol. Newest update: he was able to breath on his own yesterday with very little pressure in the vent. He is muttering some words but is difficult with the tube in the neck. He is moving his arms and is awake most of the time. The doctors were saying that he might be in there for six months, however my sister the nurse who has actually been observing has stated that he might be out in the next two months if progress keeps going like it has. He has started giving the OK for us to travel to see him however with funds the way they are and me in Virginia that will have to wait and he totally understands. I did have his wife let him know about you guys and that if he didn't settle down I would punch him in the face and apparently he was ok with that. Lol ( that our thing).

I do appreciate the kind words and in some weird way I know he does to. Here's hoping he can get out in time for the Far west Classic in Portland. His wife is from there and it would be a great trip for them.

Does he have an iPad or laptop? Just want to make sure he has "no access" when football and basketball roll around. If he doesn't, I think the board ought to go in together for one.

We're praying that he's out in 2 months and able to see TU in Portland. He's a great fan and he's still in our thoughts and prayers. He sounds like he's just stubborn enough to recover quickly.
I spoke to his wife today and she said that if he is out she is positive that he will make the trip to Portland. If TU plays on the west coast he always attends the games. She said he is making progress every day and he is trying to write. Unsuccessfully but he is trying nonetheless.

He is an all access member and the iPad is there in his room and if he for some strange reason doesn't make it out then he will watch from his room. He don't miss games EVER!!!!!! He will go on a trip and won't be able to watch the game and will record it if it's on tv and will actually go "off the grid" until he can watch the game off the DVR.

UPDATE: Today I actually got to talk to my father on the phone. He sounds awesome. My sister sent me a picture of him in the hospital and looks good and is smiling. He still has the trach in, however they said if he can go the rest of the week without any issues then they will take the trach out. He has been working with the physical and occupational therapists on a daily basis. He has movement in all of his limbs, however is still very week and has to learn to walk again. He is able to write a little bit but because of him being so weak from losing all of that muscle he gets tired fast.

I was really excited to talk to him and he is in great spirits. We didn't talk long because he was so exhausted but he was thrilled to talk to me as well. Things are looking GREAT!!!!

Lmao I might have a heart attack if I see him in a weight room. Thanks guys I appreciate it. It will be a long road but he knows he has to make the sacrifice.
Appreciate the fact that progress can be slow, but would like a current status report
if possible.....

Tnx..Roger

Sorry for taking so long. The trach has been removed so he is able to breathe on his own. He is going through physical therapy and occupational therapy. He said it wears him out real good but he knows he needs it. He thinks he might be in the hospital about another couple weeks then he can go home. He will be in a wheel chair until he can get the rest of the strength in his legs. He is walking a little obviously with assistance. There are a few things that he has to train his body to do again that we all take for granted.

I asked him how much weight has he lost and at one point he had lost like 40 pounds and he hasn't been weighed since and that was quite a while ago. He told me he does not recommend the hospital diet. It works but there are some really bad side effects. I thought that was pretty funny.

The main thing is he is getting to where he is more independent which is the goal.

Just got word today that my father is moving around better and he is scheduled to leave the hospital and go home on September 4. Just in time for the FAU game. Man has been in the hospital since May. It's been a long road but he is working hard to get back into form.

He is a city government employee so I hope so. I don't discuss financials with him. That's a personal thing in this family. I am sure though that they will be just fine
