TeamRankings projects us as a 10-seed now though

ETA... we actually went from 51 to 52

Should we actually win enough down the stretch for it to matter, picking up the Q1 will end up being way more important than any bump we receive in the NET. We need to win 5 of our last 6 at absolute minimum for this to matter. We also need OM to win as many as possible between now and the season finale so that maybe that Q3 loss will turn into a Q2 loss.

Q2 away is 76-135, right? Pretty sure that's already a Q2 loss... they're 81 right now, so that could possibly become a Q1 loss

We have to treat every game here on out as a NCAA Tourney game... the loss to Ole Miss was a really, really, really bad loss.

Actually you are right. It would be obviously beneficial for it to become a Q1 loss as opposed to Q2. For some reason I thought we went from one Q3 loss to two, but NMSU and La Tech were both Q3 losses. I think maybe La Tech was originally Q2 but slipped to Q3 as their ranking started falling.

Makes no sense - you get a top 50 NET ranking win on the road and drop? Did every team we played in the non conference lose yesterday?

You'd have to try pretty hard to come up with a more 17ed up way to rank teams than RPI. But the NCAA managed to do it with the NET rankings.

I’m kinda grasping at straws, but I think the issue is that you can’t just look at one of our games in a silo and expect to know how the NET is going to be impacted. Winning obviously helps, but every other team in the country is moving around in parallel, and what used to be a Q1 or Q2 win can change overnight.

I won’t pretend to know what all changed yesterday, but I’ll definitely say that our current rank is a lot more about a bad loss to OM than a decent win against Ark. The Rebs are playing better these days, and that’s wonderful for them, but last week’s loss to them was still horrible. Good chance it keeps us out of the dance

We need to put a pin in any discussion about making the tourney for at least another week. We have two upcoming games that we have to win no matter what. An awful A&M team on the road and a not awful but not good South Carolina at home. Can’t lose either one, period.

After that, we have 4 games left that are all gonna be pretty difficult. We’ll need to win at least 3 of them. But no need to think about that till we get these first 2 should-be gimmes out of the way.
