Tell that to Schiano . Would you say to your kids, “you finally got a job be happy with it?” I don’t think so. It’s great we have had 2 seasons of winning MBB in a row. The thing I find troubling is not the direction of the program but the underlying thoughts by alums and fans thinking this is somehow our pinnacle as a MBB program. Never be satisfied with mediocrity in life or you will be destined to living there forever.

It's about being happy about the accomplishments of this team maybe TWO DAYS after the season is over? Jeez. They did something that no one in 38 years has done. That doesn't mean you can't move the program forward.

Sure wonderful , great... we ALL get that part. You still can do all that and still say., “ we can do more and better next season.” this is the point not every post which sounds critical is critical , not everything is a hate posting , not every person is satisfied. Do you know who isn’t satisfied 2 days post game ? Steve PiKiel and his current team. Thank God for that.

You should do just that... Schiano would look at you with raised eyebrows . Rutgers lives with a stigma of being a low level program still even after some decent successes these past two years in multiple sports. We need swagger , athletes and culture continuance across the board. You won’t get there by accepting what occurred this weekend regardless of how the season went. For MBB 7-0 to 7-6 to 15-10 to 16-11 to we’ll see you next year...maybe.

Football was 3-6 this year to be fair
Tell me in year 5 if Schiano is happy at 6-6 .. he could be but I don’t see that happening. Football is much more difficult. To be fair 3-6 was great based upon several factors. Year one , no summer camp or spring ball, covid19 , and a late start to his first recruiting cycle. Followed 5 years of total disasters by Flood and Ash...we were at the depths of the worst program in college football.

just a reminder that in a normal year half the football teams go to a bowl game and 68 teams out of 340 go to the NCAAs and that this season in hoops is in no way equivalent to a 6-6 football team.

Just heard back from Greg. He said that I’m right, we should be happy for basketball’s accomplishments. The team had a great season and made history.
I said it was a good season , not a great season. It’s like a good looking woman with smarts and personality vs. one with great looks, great mind, great cook , great in bed and athletic as well. I guess it’s what separates athletic programs such as Alabama , Ohio State , Clemson compared to Rutgers.

It was cool when we beat Clemson.

Look at my original post. What did it have to do with accepting mediocrity? But the idea of Greg Schiano looking at me with raised eyebrows does chill me to the bone.

We’re still within days of a historic season, yet there seems to be an obvious uptick in negativity, bickering, and downright nastiness here.

I don’t get it. Chill folks. Sheesh.

[EDIT: For an idea of what I'm talking about check out RUBOB72's comment(s) below,]

Completely different ... we are comparing current teams... when was our last bowl game ? Against whom ?
It was cool when we beat Clemson.
We were discussing Schiano and football .

Well once you meet Schiano you understand why we have still too many fans who accept a mediocre record. I can assure you Greg Schiano would say it was a good season based upon the circumstances. I can also assure you as good as this season was for some in MBB . It was not a great season.

You just said in this exact thread that RU Basketball getting it's first tourney win in 38 years is MEDIOCRITY while RU in Football at 3-6 was GREAT. Really can't make this up.

Further - what separates football programs like Alabama, OSU & Clemson from programs like RU is $$$$$$$$$ / benefactors who will do whatever it takes to maintain success.

Absolutely *nobody* has suggested "this is somehow our pinnacle as an MBB program." *Every* poster sees this as a stepping stone; in fact, that's the reason many posters have given for being able to accept Sunday night.

Well open your wallet like some of us have for many years. Never said Rutgers first tourney win in 38 years was mediocrity. What I did say was Rutgers and their fanbase should not accept mediocrity. Quite a difference in your interpretation of what was actually said . I would venture a guess and I know I’d be spot on with this point your attitude that teams such as Clemson and Alabama are in somewhat evil for elicit money to recruits and Rutgers is squeaky clean ? Man have you had a sheltered life. BTW : from my best guess we have been penalized more times in football and basketball than those you mentioned .

great seasons are different for every school and program. For us getting to second round is a great season. If we do it 5 more times in the next 8 years it will be come average. Then the bar for a great season will be raised.

there is no way around it... this was a great season for men’s basketball.

I do not think people understand how hard it is to have an ncaa tournement team every year.

Tell me in year 5 if Schiano will be bringing back a corpse of a program that had a 30 year gap between bowl games.

If you actually want to make an honest comparison that doesn't make you sound like a spoiled child who just started watching RUMB this year, Schiano 1.0 made his first bowl game at 7-5 in year 5, which was also his first year with a winning record. Barring COVID, Pikiell would've achieved similar milestones in year 4.

I don't think anyone was displeased in year 5 with Schiano, and we shouldn't be in year 5 with Pikiell. You can want more in the future without being miserable all the time.
Please you are embarrassing yourself . Watching Rutgers since 1967. SoI have seen both they good , bad and the ugly. Schiano ‘s turnaround in football was a far more monumental task . If you knew anything regarding program building I wouldn’t have to waste oxygen on you.

You know we haven’t won a tournament game in 38 years right?

you can dream about winning ncaa titles all you want that is great. I am a big believer in having a vision but you need to be realistic for where we are right now.

Based on your definition, only four teams have great seasons every year. I am assuming you would consider a final four great.

I'm happy with the progress the RU MBB team is masking under Pike, but not satisfied yet .
The way the tourney ended wasn't so great and losing like RU did to Houston shows the team needs a lot of improvement to be considered a top program in my mind and that's what I'm hoping for.
But for now the chicken little sky is falling when things not going right , by some posters, is laughable in a way because they act like Rutgers got there as a program and now reverting to the Freddie/Eddie eras.
You can be happy with a program , yet not satisfied with it as well.:YesNo

Not sure whom Bob's Prozac comment is aimed at (don't believe it's me), but I have a guess. About as nasty as things get on a message board. Kind of sadly ironic given the intent of the OP.
