Need Planning Help

I'll be attending the Northern Illinois game. I have never been to a game before and I need some help!
If I fly in the day before to Omaha, where would you recommend staying? Cheapish but not junky. How would you recommend getting to the stadium on game day?

Any tips would be appreciated

Comfort Suites is a reasonably-priced and in a very nice part of West O and close to the interstate. Book early and probably 70-80 bucks a night.

I would leave as early as possible, as traffic can get very heavy. Just drive unless you are going with a group. The earlier you get there, the easier it is to get close game day parking. Then, just wander around and enjoy all the tailgating.

I also advise getting to the stadium 30-45 min before the gates open. The lines are long and move very slow, because it's hard to get around in the stadium, very narrow once in the seating areas.

I hope you have an awesome time, it has never disappointed.

More hotels and cheaper to choose from on game weekend. Lincoln Hotels all raise their prices. If you go down a little prior to arrive three hours prior to game time traffic will not be bad! If you arrive that early or a little earlier you can get a spot in a parking garage downtown!

I just looked on the Hilton page... if you book today you can get the Hampton Inn on West Center (Far West Omaha) for $85 and it's a newer hotel, probly less than 5 years old. This is in a great spot with decent restaurants and has good accessibility to the interstate or HWY6 which are the main thoroughfares to Lincoln on game day.

Or you can stay at the airport Hampton by the Lincoln airport (Not very nice) for $135 or downtown (walking distance) for $300

If you get down town early enough before the game there is a number of parking places you can get for $20 and walk on in... if you want to get closer you can always try the park&go website when things get closer to reserve a spot in one of the garages

What he said! If this is your first time then plan on spending the entire day there and really soak it all up! The experience cannot be explained until you feel it for yourself!

Oh, and when you're in town or at the Game make sure and Get a RUNZA! it'll complete your experience!

Make sure and get your runza in the first half. I can't believe that every game I attended last year, the concession stands in my area sold out before the start of the second half. Yes I sent my complaint to the athletic office. We don't have the walking vendors. Maybe they had some.

You have plenty of time to join a date site. Most farmers have internet now and many have daughters.

Thanks for the advice everybody. I spent a few of my highschool years in lincoln but my family could never afford to go to a game (minus the Spring Game). I'll never forget even in the spring game atmosphere, I shed a tear during the tunnel walk lol

My personal opinion is to stay in Lincoln, if financially possible. If the goal is to get the full experience, then you're not going to get it an hour away in Omaha.

Friday night, go downtown, walk around campus, soak in the atmosphere, go to downtown or Haymarket bars/restaurants. Go to the stadium, see the statues and trophies without the Saturday crowds, etc. Maybe even find a group of fans from this site or others that are meeting up or tailgating.

Saturday, get downtown as early as possible. Again, tailgate, visit bars, walk campus, etc. to prime for the game. Depending on your seats, get there an hour early. Watch the warmups, band, etc. After the game, hang out in the stadium for a bit to soak in more atmosphere. Then, depending on the time of day, walk around campus, downtown, Haymarket, eat, drink socialize, etc. The popular places have undoubtedly changed since I was a Lincolnite, but I had season tickets for 15 years and the pre/post-game experience was half the fun.

No offense to the Omaha folks, but if someone asks me what to do in Las Vegas, I don't suggest they stay in St. George, Utah because it's cheaper.

I would second it and say to stay in Lincoln...

I would not agree with getting in the stadium early but the pregame stuff inside the stadium really doesn't do much for me.
