Fisher Bunnies
Teutopolis wooden shoes
Crystal Lake South Gators (not that obscure, but having a team named Gators in Illinois is humerous)
Centralia Orphans
Cobden Appleknockers
Hoopston Cornjerkers
Effingham Flaming Hearts
Freeburg Midgets (old nickname that was deemed "offensive")
All.... Illinois High School Glory Days can get you some information. The Ihsa once had a list of those but I can't find it at the moment. Ratsy
Glory days is good but only lists closed schools. As long as that's not an issue for your project it's a great resource.

Some of these names. like the Orphans, could have been lifted from "The Warriors," which also had such colorful names as the Gramercy Riffs and of course the Baseball Furies. Some football team should call themselves the Furies. Can you dig it?

Why Mascots have tales. Btw Joliet West very briefly when it opened was called the Westmen a Viking type mascot. A name change for your research was Pekin Chinks
Quite few entries from the Land of Lincoln.
I heard a story once that the Cobden cheerleaders had a shortened version of the team nickname across the front of their uniform tops.
I heard a similar story about the Hoopston cheerleaders...
