This is what I was talking about with my post about a healthy dose of cupcakes for our football team to stockpile wins. Literally people forget that you aren’t playing Alabama in the preseason and get enamored with the undefeated start.

It’s an easy recipe for success.

1. Go undefeated in the preseason.
2. Get the attention of the voters and media.
3. Recruits are excited and see you as a winning team.
4. Play a tough conference schedule and win at least half.
5. Go to a bowl/tourney.

The years that the stars align and you have superior talent, you win a majority of the conference games and are in contention for conference or national championships.

People forget about the level of competition and get blinded by “wins”. Easy to do for the majority

If they beat Creighton, they will be ranked!!!
Possibly. Colorado State went from being "ranked" 44th (based on Others Receiving Votes) to #20 for beating Creighton.

Although that was a complete ***-whipping, so it probably earned the Rams some bonus points.

This again. You can’t compare basketball scheduling to football scheduling. Won’t bother explaining it to you again, it clearly isn’t going to sink in. Our schedule going forward is going to be brutal every year. Either embrace it, get better and win… or keep hoping to find a weaker schedule like we’ve had for a decade plus. Hint: won’t happen.

I am simply talking about our PRE-SEASON (out of conference) schedule. We have full control over that. I agree that our schedules are going to get tougher. That’s my point. The conference schedule is strong enough to stand alone and get you into the bowls (or March madness) on its own if you even do reasonably well.

Makes preseason wins all risk with little upside imo.

What do you not agree with about managing the non conference schedule to make it lighter?

We’re scheduling 1 power 5 non-con game per year. Virtually every other p5 football program is doing the same. Maybe Nebraska should just bow out of the B1G and go compete in the NAIA so we can win some games?

Big if... But at least there is a glimpse of hope.
we're ranked about the same in RPI. Oddsmakers are usually pretty smart. Pre-odds +3? Was like 15 last year, beat the crap out of the on their court if I remember correctly. It'll be a good game. go Hoibergers...

Agree with this. I feel like the Jays are going to struggle this year.
One of the OWH writers referenced that there's starting to be a bit of a book on how to beat Creighton. Control pace (slow), physical defense. As long as we don't have a terrible shooting game I think we'll be in it for sure.

I think that's been the book on beating Creighton for a while, but Nembhard had the ability - against most teams anyway - to push the pace and create some offense in the half court. His much-heralded replacement has shown none of that, which is allowing teams to really clamp down on Alexander.

They also miss Kaluma more than anticipated. Streaky player who wasn't very reliable, but he had his good moments.

If cupcakes in the preseason to get over 21 wins wont getus in the tourney, theres yer another reason to not be in the big ten. The big ten gets too many bids each year. Winning almost half of our conference games with 21 wins should get us in. I get we got hosed one year, ut most years it should work.

I'm all for Fred scheduling mostly cupcakes. Especially until they start beating said cupcakes, like this year. Getting your brains beat in accomplishes nothing.
