even though he did not finish in Lincoln. Nate Boerkircher taken in 2nd Round. Congrats to his family.

Our talent level on a 1 to 10 is a 5 at best. EJ will be the only Husker drafted this year. It's pretty ******* sad when there is a congratulations thread for a guy that was on the roster 2 years ago and nobody from the current roster has been drafted through round 3.
Boerk got paid. No way did I see it working out for him the way it did. He would have been our #1 receiving target had he stayed. What a good move for Boerkircher. Aurora kid transfers to A&M and ultimately gets drafted in round two.
And we let him go. Meanwhile, we replaced him with Haarberg, who also made the broadcast yesterday. Getting blown up by Jake Golday of Cincinnati on an attempted run block.
Talent isn't hard to see... for me at least. This staff either doesn't know or doesn't care how to keep good talent. Don't know which is scarier, but we're reaping the consequences.Boerk got paid. Nobody saw Boerk as a second round draftee. A$M had a huge need at TE and they went out and signed the best available. I would venture that they didn’t see him as a 2nd rounder when they signed him. I’m not even sure that any other NFL team had a 2nd round grade on him. Good for him though. He clearly maximized his physical talent.Talent isn't hard to see... for me at least. It took Dana coming here to figure out EJ was by far our best back. EJ was 3rd on the depth chart when he arrived. Fans saw the explosive runs and acceleration every time he got the ball. But our staff still thought you had to pull a RB out every time he got a 7 yard run. It was easy to see EJ was by far our best back. Really makes you wonder if this is not one really huge issue with the program. How many other guys were not playing that should have been? Was the 3-3-5 wretched enough that it took good players and handcuffed them? Did anybody know what the hell they were doing? One thing at this point sticks out. NU now has the reputation among NFL scouts as not being able to develop talent. Thats how and why you have only one guy picked in 7 rounds. The only way to cleanse the stench off at this point is to clean house from the A.D. on down. Two calls Ruhle made that will haunt him. Picking Satt as OC and stubbornly staying with the 3-3-5 when he should have been able to see we did not have the elite talent needed to play that defense in the B1G.Talent isn't hard to see... for me at least. This thread is about the NFL draft. Not music.Could this thread be any more tone-deaf?

I watched Payton get drafted, saw the highlights and heard the commentary about him. Big, physical. 70% passer. Great runner. The dude is a better version of Scott Frost and HC Scott Frost just ignored him.I see Cole Payton QB North Dakota St (Omaha Westside) just got drafted in the 5th.
I saw him play several times when he was in H.S. and he was impressive how he was in control of the offense,
Accurate passer ...not a gun for an arm, but certainly could get the job done. Strong physical runner, better than most HS QB's.
Anyway...thought at the time he deserved a long look by Nebraska. Maybe he got it ?
Nebraska like every other p4 wanted him as a DB . Good for the kid that he stayed his course and went to FSC to play QB .I see Cole Payton QB North Dakota St (Omaha Westside) just got drafted in the 5th.

Nebraska wanted him as DB just like Matt Campbell at ISU . It happens sometimes.I watched Payton's and heard the commentary about him. Big, physical. 70% passer. Great runner. The dude is a better version of Scott Frost and HC Scott Frost just ignored him.
This is Husker football. Poor talent evaluation, poor talent development. Lots of player entitlement & hype.
I think too many people were enamored with Dowdell- the hot shot transfer who barrelled straight ahead into whatever got into his way. Then there was the feel good story of Ramir Johnson, who apparently had to get touches too.It took Dana coming here to figure out EJ was by far our best back. Talent evaluation. We've got to get better at it. It's fair to say "yeah but this other school didn't do it either...." but he's an in-state kid. But I say no more excuses. NU football is NOT getting the best kids in any other state so we just as well get it right in-state. We've brought in "athletes" before and let them try QB first, like HH who was in the same recruiting class if I recall correctly.Nebraska wanted him as DB just like Matt Campbell at ISU . It happens sometimes.
HH had offers from p4 schools at Qb . I agree we need to get better.Talent evaluation. We've got to get better at it. Side note: I don't think he had a commitable offer from NU. I never heard it talked about or reported.
Good point. My thought is that it shouldn't matter how many offers a kid has. I long for the days when Osborne would offer a kid based on evaluation. It didn't matter who else had offered them. So when a kid does well and we didn't recruit him, I blame poor evaluation or more likely the lack of a real evaluation. Scott Frost apparently only watched one HS football game while HC at Nebraska.HH had offers from p4 schools at Qb . I agree we need to get better.
3 calls.. Retaining Uncle Donnie on staff was his worst decision ever.It took Dana coming here to figure out EJ was by far our best back. EJ was 3rd on the depth chart when he arrived. Agree but we all know why he made that decision.3 calls.. Retaining Uncle Donnie on staff was his worst decision ever.
This is wrongNebraska wanted him as DB just like Matt Campbell at ISU . It happens sometimes.
Pretty sure it was safety . Frost had HH as QB already in the class .Cole told frost and Campbell he wanted Qb .and it as of now has worked out. This is wrong
frost called with a committable offer at QB the day after he won the state title for westside
Cole told him to pound sand
day late/dollar short
I know exactly what happened straight from the source & his OC at westsidePretty sure it was safety . Frost had HH as QB already in the class .Cole told frost and Campbell he wanted Qb .and it as of now has worked out.
He’s not a second round talent, but good for himNobody saw Boerk as a second round draftee. A$M had a huge need at TE and they went out and signed the best available. I think he was a reach in the second but all it takes is the right GM and head coach to get you drafted. He’ll be a solid blocker and dependable pass catcher for an offense that doesn’t need a TE to be a deeper threat. He’s not a second round talent, but good for him
