Nebraska's Rivalries?

They(Wisconsin) lead the series by one game (the series is full of streaks). Otherwise, I pretty much agree with your post. Funny thing is I think we've played Nebraska more than any other team in the conference. The programs however went in different directions. Nebraska fully supported football and it showed. Football became an after thought at Minnesota starting in the late 60's. The lack of support, the south opening their football programs to all, and other things lined up with the steady decline in football. That destroyed might have been a decent series between Minnesota and Nebraska. Nebraska adjusted. Minnesota did not.

Although I doubt Minnesota is even on Nebraska's radar, my hope is that Minnesota will continue to improve and one day make the series interesting again. Iowa and Wisconsin will always be there for us. A meaningful Nebraska vs Minnesota series would be a nice addition. I'm a fan, I'm allowed to dream.

Lately is what I meant, 21of the last 23 wouldn’t you say.
Not many realize that Wisconsin and Minnesota are the longest standing rivalry in the FBS but I did.

Minnesota has also played Nebraska more times than Ohio St has, I would bet not many Husker fans knew that.

I love to fish and I've heard multiple times Minnesotan's are friendly people and fans. I would love to see Minnesota get good again.

Any rival who's fans are cool is in my opinion a good one, because that means visiting can be really enjoyed, the sites, the food, the people. That's the kind of rival I would like, a fun easy going rival fan base.

I've heard good things about Michigan fans, and really all the Buckeye fans I've personally met have been good to me too. I can't complain yet. Even have a friend who's married to a Hawkeye, and he's fantastic.

Agree
Fans Ive interacted with- liked the most in the BIG in order:
MSU- by far
Purdue
Minny- home and away
Michigan- home and away

Not enough interractions:
NW, Illinois, IN, Rutgers, MD

Not so well- worst first:
Wisconsin- home and airport bar incident
Ohio State
PSU
Iowa

Still all better than CU

This is what I like about true Nebraska (and Iowa fans). Both know football history as well. If history has any say, most of these rivalries will continue to have streaks. Alabama and OSU's run will eventually end, then Michigan and Auburn will most likely have runs of their own. Assuming Minnesota will continue to support football, I won't be surprised if we even up the series with Wisconsin some day soon.

Most BigTen fans that actually attend games are cool. Even dare I say Wisconsin fans weren't that bad, well post game anyway. They just insist that college football started in 93'Winking

Other than a few fans that haven't gotten over the 84-13 rollover, I think you will be well received in Gold country. We've had Nebraska fans in out tailgate lots and they were well received. Nothing but good things were said about Nebraska fans!

Welcome to the BigTen, and congratulations on securing coach Scott Frost! It will only make the conference better (and tougher of course).

I think anything is better than CU. I would never go back to Boulder for a game and it's a shame because it's a beautiful town and I enjoyed our rivalry.
Just curious, what was the incident at the airport bar in Wisconsin?

Well- BIG group of well dressed Wisconsin fans in the bar in March-cant remember airport or year- Im between flights. WASNT in Wisconsin. Basketball game on, I have my NU hat on. They are all dressed out in Wisconsin gear- they made snide comment about how NU hadnt brought anything to the BIG- and laughing about their blowout wins etc. I was polite, got my beer and moved to the side. OLDER people, I was probably 54- but- hold my own - Im talking in their 50s/60s. Not going to get into it with someone who then says Im picking on an old man.

Some player on the opposing team- one of their better kids gets hurt pretty bad, The Wisconsin people are clapping and whooping it up because the kid got hurt. Someone said something to them about it- the Wisconsin people popped right up- probably 5 of the 10 in their party and got in the face of the guy who made the casual remark about it not being cool cheering for an injury. The one old guy from Wisconsin wouldnt let it go and there were punches thrown and a table turned over. Couldnt believe it.

Wow, that is pretty classless. Hopefully they got in trouble and at least missed a flight.

Thank you for the welcome! I've got family who went to see Nebraska play Minnesota this year and just raved about your stadium and said the fans were wonderful folks, so I can't wait to get my fishing pole and go to see a game in a couple years there.

I recruited for the US Navy and traveled to Minnesota plenty of times, seen a good amount of the Twin Cities and shocked the Gophers don't have a good team because that is a really neat city, and a killer stadium from what I hear, just need to get that coach!

I never found out, there were no seats left in the bar- I was standing on the edge and blasted out to catch my connection.

davecisar, Have only been to Madison once stayed at the Holiday Inn with ma father our first B1G game.

I was fortunate to meet a couple of guys in the lobby right after getting back after the game, anyway one wanted to know how we were treated at the game told him we had some heckling from quite a few of their fans but mostly the students were ruthless, he told me “ya majority of the students are terrible to the other fan base”, he then invited my father and for drinks at the motel bar came down after we ate some pizza and both guys were like talking to my buddy’s who happen to be Hawk fans, we enjoyed telling stories about our Football history and what it was like when he went to Wisconsin when they where terrible.

It was a great late evening having some cocktails and talking football with them my father and I enjoyed it especially when my dad told them he was from Minnesota and his 2nd favorite team was the Gophers, we had a good laugh over that..

If I would have never meet those 2 guys I would have thought they we’re all DBags.

Iowa fan in general may be decent folks, but message board Iowa fans are the worst. Every fan base, ya da ya da ya da......message board Iowa fans have more than their share of idiots. You see it here, on national boards etc....This is well known throughout the college football message board realm.

For a fan base that constantly harps that everyone else is their “lil bro” a high percentage of the message board Iowa fan base truly act like insecure lil bros. That’s all I have to say about that.

You’ll find that in a lot of fan bases of teams who have won some games but never anything of consequence. South Carolina and Kansas State come to mind.

Funny I was one step away from being in the Navy (decades ago). Just wasn't the right time for me due to family illness.

Well we are hoping that we have the guy in P.J. Fleck. He is good at selling the program. My hope is that he can get/ keep the right staff and continue to get support from the administration.

Regarding fishing, there are plenty of lakes to chose from that are relatively close by. I'd go on the Gopher Rivals forum or the Gopherhole website. My guess is that you'll get plenty of advice regarding where to fish.

Here is one popular lake (The department of natural resources stocks this lake.):

https://www.threeriversparks.org/location/lake-minnetonka-regional-park

It's not super far from the Twin Cities campus and because of all of the bays, you are bound to find on where the fish are biting. If you wish to fish from the shore, or a non motorized boat, I think you can fish any lake in Minneapolis:

https://www.minneapolisparks.org/pa...kes/minneapolis_chain_of_lakes_regional_park/

Just not sure how good the fishing is at these lakes. My suggestion is to try lakes surrounding the Twin Cities. I haven't fished for some time, so I don't know which lakes are "hot" now.

Thanks for the kind words!

Cheers!

IMO, Nebraska is use to heat at the end of they year, where we Hawkeye's have usefully wraped up a good season, long before the end of the season. We played Wisky once, for the BIG title in 04, only because OSU beat Michigan year, so we tied them.

I think the idea of a rivalry and expectations are a bit different. A rivalry, none the less it is.

And to the Minny fan, it use to be like that between us, many moons ago. The winner was going to the Rose Bowl and these were top tens teams at times. And the racial component, you are so correct. That is where the heat started.

Then we both sucked for 20 years. We lost that heat.

I just wish the Huskers would come out with a little fire for the day after Thanksgiving game. I'm not making excuses, Iowa has completely outplayed NU especially the last couple of years, but the Huskers look completely flat and unmotivated while Iowa looks fired up and plays at a high level. I don't usually hate on Riley but I think a big part of that was on him and whatever pre-holiday/pre-game rituals they had.

Right on brotha! Thanks for the heads up. I am really interested in going to the Northern boundary waters and doing some camping too. Millions of acres of untouched wilderness! The bears are the only thing that scares me about taking my daughter along.

But I really really want to see that part of the country. So far the Chattanooga/Hixson/Eastridge area of Tennessee is the most beautiful part of America I've seen.

Can't wait to go see a game myself in Minny!!!

I think Riley’s pre-game ritual was nothing more than him in a room taking bong rips. He rarely looked like he knew where he was.

I envy you in a good way. Never have been to that area of the country. Hope to visit there and North Carolina some day. If I'm not mistaken lots of woodworkers/ Furniture makers out that way.

If you don't mind portaging, the BWCA is paradise. Well, paradise with Mosquitoes... Anyway, Quetico is nice as well. If you have an enhanced drivers license, you are good(Meaning Passport not necessary).

BTW Black Bears in general shy away from humans. Just store your food properly.

Funny thing about that is the BigTen kind of forced the issue in the 60's. The SEC eventually caved in.

Nebraska really doesn't have a true rivalry anymore, especially after they left the Big 12, or at least the rivalries we had are not nearly as strong as they were.
Name the top 5 teams that are currently Nebraska's biggest rivalries in your opinion... There are no wrong answers! :D

South Dakota state
Illinois state
Northwester
Washington
Alabama
