Heading to Lincoln for this years game

Where to tailgate?

Looks like it's better to fly into Omaha from Newark bc there is direct flights and better flight times.

Any recommendations on hotels to stay at in Lincoln? Marriott looks most reasonable ...will likely head back to Omaha to watch NFL on Sunday..fly back Monday

This was my favorite road trip by far. Very friendly fanbase. We didn't tailgate, per se. We headed downtown early in the morning and hit a rooftop bar (can't remember the name). Was a fun time and only half mile or so from the stadium. Parking downtown in lots was easy and relatively inexpensive compared to parking for RU games.

The hotels in the Haymarket area would be prime. They are a little bit pricey, but get you in walking distance of the bar/restaurant area and the stadium. If those hotels are too steep, we stayed out by the highway (Hampton Inn and Suites) off the exit for 27th st. Those hotels around there are solid and a lot cheaper.

You will have a great time, enjoy!

Did u fly to Omaha Or Lincoln?

I flew to Cedar Rapids and drove from there because we have family there and extended our stay for that. My buddy flew to Lincoln and that was super convenient. If you can get flights to Lincoln that aren't outrageous, it's worth it in my opinion.

We flew into Omaha which is an easy one hour drive to Lincoln. We had decided to stay in Omaha due to the cost of hotels. In Omaha the Hilton was about $125 versus $300+ for motels in Lincoln. The tailgating was tremendous and the Nebraska fans could not be any friendlier. We must of had at least 25 people stop by to talk with us and to thank us for coming. On the drive back to Omaha after the game we saw a billboard alongside the highway that already had the score of the game posted. One of my best away game experiences.

Cheaper & more options to fly into Omaha. Quick 1 hour drive or cab to Lincoln. Someone here was actually looking for people to Uber share with him each way.

Haymarket area is the place to stay. Steps to bars & restaurants & nightlife. We have reservations at the Hyatt.

We found that most of the tailgating in Lincoln is actually at the bars...which open at 6am on game day.

I will echo that this was one of my top two away game experiences. The night before the game, we went to a bar that had a country band and every 5 songs would play the Husker fight song. Cool. The band asked, "Where are the Rutgers fans at?" Our table cheered. The they asked, "Who is coming up on stage to sing your fight song?" Everyone at my table points to me. My 19 year old son follows me.

We blast out our fight song, everyone politely applauds, then the band starts asking questions about Rutgers, NJ etc. I say we didn't come all this way to lose, and kiddingly mentioned that I know Tony Soprano, and he knows how to bury the bodies. Everyone is laughing. I close by saying we are happy to be in this conference with Nebraska, thanked them for the Husker fans hospitality, and said that this is a beautiful part of the country and a great place to raise a family. My son and I get a huge ovation as we exit the stage. Great times.

Logistically, we stayed at the Husker Marriott just a few blocks from the stadium and HaymarketSquare. We walked to everything.

On Friday AM, flew into Omaha and drove to Lincoln. We were at a restaurant in Haymarket Square for lunch.

I recommend everyone going to Lincoln for a RU football game once in their lives.

Same here. We headed into Lincoln early in the morning of the game. Parked in a downtown garage for a very reasonable rate and walked over to a Bar. The host fans were salt of the earth and represent what college football fans should be. Hotels were good in Omaha..staying at the Doubletree again.

Was there a couple of years ago for the RU game. Definitely stay at the Hyatt Place. It's walking distance to the stadium, many restaurants and bars.

I live in Omaha so this one is a home game for me. Suggest you come out Friday, stay in Omaha downtown. Great area called the Old Market with tons of restaurants, shops, galleries. More to do in Omaha. Easy drive out to Lincoln for game. If you have an extra day go to Henry Doorley Zoo, one of the top zoos in the nation.

As others have said you need to make it to a game at Nebraska at least once. Great fans and Memorial Stadium rocks.

Your description is basically what our trip was last time (although we might have started on Thursday). Our trip was generally Omaha, then drove out to Lincoln early the day of the game, parked in a lot right by the bars/walking distance to game (I pre-purchased a spot in one of the lots I found listed somewhere for games there). After the game we ended up at a bar in the midst of everything...cant remember the name, but there was a big open area with a large projection screen to watch games, etc. (seems a bit like the spot at RU where the grease trucks used to be).

You were probably at the Railyard.

MrScrew & I are flying out on Thursday to spend the day in Omaha then head down to Lincoln around midday.

The zoo was on my list. Any particular restaurant, doesn't have to be fancy, or specific things to do?

If your room reservations fall through, it's always available to stay in the back of Huskers's pickup. He keeps it clean and can rarely find it the weekend of a game.

So many good ones to choose from. In the Old Market area Stokes (Southwest fare), Le Bouillon (French bistro), Upstream Brewing (pub grub) and a number of good sushi places if you're into that. Great area to wander around.

Other attractions worth seeing Lauritzen Gardens Botanical Museum, Durham Museum and check out TD Ameritrade park home of the CWS.

I enjoyed the zoo!
Also, if you like steak, we enjoyed The Drover. We were contemplating 801 chophouse, but drover seemed to have a more local vibe different than a high end place in the NYC area.

Personally I prefer Mohogany Grill or Brothers Sebastian's over the Drover but it is good too.
