Nebraska Should Be Recruiting Arizona

I would really like to see the NU staff make Arizona a bigger priority in upcoming recruiting cycles. I believe this territory is a good combination of deep (or deep-ish) recruiting base coupled with the lack of a dominating presence from the local schools. If you look at their historical state rankings, you'll notice how frequently other schools have been able to come into the state and take some of their best recruits. In any given cycle, they have 20+ D-1 prospects and the Arizona schools only get about 20% of them. I feel like this presents a much better value proposition than a state like Georgia, for example.

This is also an area that other B1G schools like Michigan, Wisconsin, and Michigan State seem to target. A recruiting win in this area would not only get us a good prospect, but also take one away from a rival. That is huge, in my opinion.

Dedrick Young is an example of an AZ recruit Riley was able to sign last year. Prince Amukamara and Eric Hagg are also semi-recent examples as well. I know we made offers, but I was surprised that this area doesn't seem to be a big focus this time around. Maybe we just had bad luck?

I thought Cavanaugh's ties were mostly in AZ. Is he not working the area?

Does Mike Brown live there now? Does he have like 5 boys as brilliant as him on the football field? Could we get that lucky?

Last I knew, Phoenix was the 12th largest metro, so there's got to be some talent there.

Jaivorio Burke could've been a great one too. Marcel Jones was alright.

I think the east coast is a better area to recruit. It has high population and not too many football schools. Look how many top recruits are from New Jersey. Maryland usually has very good recruits along with the D.C. area. Virginia, North Carolina, Pennsylvania all have high populations. Georgia is probably the top recruiting hotbed in the country. The problem is everybody knows it. Still, with how many recruits Alabama and the rest of the SEC can get from Georgia, I don't see why we couldn't get a couple. States like Minnesota and Wisconsin seem to produce good OL talent.

Maybe it's just too cold in Nebraska anymore for the AZ players to want to play in Lincoln! ;)
Personally, I love AZ, bought a house there 5 years ago when the prices were too cheap to pass up. I'll gladly recruit the Phoenix area for Nebraska.

I live in the west valley of Phoenix and while there is not tons of talent there is talent that would help the program. My guess is that there are 10 legitimate D-1 players in Phoenix and another 5 throughout the state. ASU and UA don't get them all, maybe 4-6. The rest go out of state. It might be worth the effort to get 2-3 every year. Plus Charlie Mcbride lives here and he would be able to provide insight. I know he offered in the past and the old staff never took him up on his offer. Charlie, while getting up in age, is still well connected and well thought of.
