A national publication ( I think was USA Today) used to have a national high school mascot contest each year. I remember one year the Holdrege Dusters received the most Nebraska votes but I didn't follow it through to see what won on the national level. I remember the Yuma, Arizona Criminals and the Kuna, Idaho Cavemen getting a lot of votes.

Can't believe when West Holt was formed they ditched the Haybalers name for Huskies. #sad

Atkinson Junior High did hold onto the Baler mascot for quite a few years after the formation of the West Holt district but now it is all West Holt and both JH/HS use the Husky mascot.

Newcastle was the Raider Knights at one time? I only knew them as the Red Raiders.

Marion ???? Blue White
We have a VB game at Southwest tonight.

I found some info in the hallway in a type of trophy case for each small school that combined over the years to make Southwest.

Pretty sure you were still missing this one.

Also, an air high five to anyone who can inform me of other private schools that have come and gone in Northeast Nebraska, or anywhere for that matter. Give your beat guess of when they closed also.
Spalding Bluejays if you are wondering, They became Spalding-Spalding Academy Knights, then Spalding consolidated with Cedar Rapids to become Riverside Chargers. Spalding Academy joined them for sports and they are all part of Riverside athletics.

So I saw this tweet from Suiting Up Varsity. Who has a great podcast everyone should check out. They tweeted this out.

Elmwood was the Pirates (Blue and White) before consolidating with Murdock (who was the Bulldogs and they were purple and white). They are now the Elmwood-Murdock Knights and are black and silver.

He also mentioned Atkinson was the Haybalers, Clarks was the Blue Bombers.

What are a few other past mascots before co-ops and consolidations? A few from my neck of the woods.

Snyder Warriors (red and white)
Pilger Cardinals (red and white)
Craig Wolves (purple and white)
Hooper Cardinals (purple and white)
Uehling Bobcats (Orange and White? Brown and white maybe?)
