Nope! They might be 8-4 but probably 7-5. Vandy almost beat them at home. Whoever they play in the playoff will absolutely skull 17 them into submission.
If they aren’t number 3 who is? I don’t get it. They don’t play in the SEC. they play as difficult a schedule as everyone outside the SEC.

They don't pass the eye test. They will steal someone else's spot because of their name, and they will lose by 40 in the playoff.
Not sure Clemson does either. Theyre toughest game was txam. After that a very average syracuse team.
Its messed up this yr because after bama theres a lot of teams 2-15 that in a normal yr are 8-4 and ranked 22nd. This was def the year for the taking....and of course hoping somebody knocks off bama in front of you

Who downvotes this? I can take baby sharks, but I will not tolerate Notre Dame trash. They are a **** team that gets to dictate their schedule because of being relevant prior to the Internet. They are going to be embarrassed when they play a top 4 team so badly, that their linebacking crew is going home to cry to their fake girlfriends. UCF deserves to be in the playoff as much as ND does.
So so who is 3 and 4. That is what I am getting at. Put someone there and I will show you they are also undeserving

ND has the benefit of beating a Michigan team on opening day. They also benefited from winning a game in Northwestern..
A b10 division champ in a down conference. They also got to play VaTech before they had their usual implosion. Then you have perennial powers on their schedule that are currently in the gutter like USC and FLST. Fools gold on their schedule. They nearly lost to BallSt and Vandy outplayed them. I hope the committee pairs them with Bama. It will be over before it starts.
The playoff needs to expand to 8.
And I'll also add, if I had to list the top 8 teams in the country, I could make a strong argument Mississippi State is one of them....though our actual schedule results would put us just on the outside.

Anyone who is undefeated or has one loss and has played the rigor of a conference schedule. I'd put Ohio State, Oklahoma, Georgia over Notre Dame. That's not saying any of them deserve to be there....but that they are more deserving than ND.
I get that you love ND and are running through here downvoting everyone who doesn't. But my overall point is that Notre Dame just isn't great. They would probably be 7-5 against an SEC schedule. Their best win is a good win over an overrated Michigan team. They struggled with Ball State and Vanderbilt. They only beat a bad USC team by one score. They have wins over ranked teams, but they're teams like Syracuse, Northwestern, and Pittsburgh, teams that aren't nearly as strong as we see week-in and week-out in the SEC.
I think State is just as good as Notre Dame, at least. Do we belong in the playoff? That's why they don't.
Vandy almost beat them because of Brandon Wimbush...this was before they changed QBs. USC is a rival and I think we know how hose games can go sometimes. Notre Dame deserves to be there they've won every game and to the idiot who says UCF deserves to be there as much as Notre Dame. Did you watch the Temple game? Their level of competition is a joke.
I hate ND and haven’t downvoted a soul FTR. OSU lost to a 6-6 team which at least ND didn’t do. OU will more than likely make it assuming they win and UGA also gets their shot this weekend. The fact is this year much like last year there are only two deserving teams and others. ND didn’t have an awful schedule this year. They play a half conference schedule now and plenty OOC games that aren’t ****. You want to elevate OSU because they play a ****** conference schedule that’s you prerogative but don’t say ND is a lot worse. If ND got drummed at Navy and was 11-1 I’d be right there with you but they took care of business against an OK schedule.
if you just compare everyone to an SEC schedule no one holds up. Fact of the matter is most years we are not getting two schools in. Good news if we ever go undefeated it is no debate we are in the playoff. Good and bad of the SEC
They're 12-0 and their schedule is comparable with most P5 conference teams' schedules. Whether they pass the eye test or not, they've earned their spot. I agree that we would have at least a 50-50 chance of beating them the way we're playing the last month, but we've got 4 losses, so no way we deserve a spot (interestingly, Sagarin ranks ND #7 and us #8 right now).
No, apparently you are stupid. They aren't undefeated because of their name. They are undefeated because of their schedule. They are in the playoff because of their name.
Agreed. Anyone who bitches about their schedule just look and see Clemson hasn’t exactly had a stronger schedule, yet gets the benefit of the doubt. Common opponents: ND blew them out, too. Except maybe swap Syracuse and Pitt (the former Clemson struggled with; the latter ND).
