Walkup is a very good player....I wish Rutgers Had him, but, he laid an egg on those two possessions. Two bad shots...it looks like he was trying to be the star.
SFA had shooters making shots all game. Their offense was horrible the last 1.30 of the game. They gave ND that game.
Not only that phantom call but the following one when Jackson drove and the SfA defender goes straight up and misses the layup and then the late whistle comes. The refs gave that game to Notre Dame. The official who made the phantom call, on a 50/50 ball for a rebound after that shot with about a minute to go, should walk directly to the Brooklyn Bridge and jump in head first. Instead of no call, and Lumberjack ball with a new shot clock, ND gets the ball, makes 2 free throws, cuts the lead to 3. They were letting these guys play at both ends and you make THAT call? F*cking disgraceful IMHO.
He put it in his best players hands and trusted him to make great decisions like he normally does. Nothing wrong with that except he missed those 2 shots. Becomes a non issue, if refs don't blow those 2 critical calls and Notre Dane is fouling Walkup at the end of the game., where he had hit 21-22 of his last free throws. Not so dumb!!!Good coach, but, I hate how he took the air out of the ball with less than 2 minutes to go.
Notre Dame got damn lucky with that tip where it also looked that Auguste walked when he got the first rebound. The killer was the uncontested layup off the inbounds. Gave ND 2 points while taking no time off clock.
IMO, You guys are letting your anti-ND bias get in the way. ND won because of the horrible SFA offense in the last 1.30. Walkup took an ill advised 3 point shot with 10 seconds on the clock coming out of a timeout. I'm sure that's not the play the coach drew up.

Sorry but if the official doesn't make that lousy call they can run another 25-30 seconds off the clock and possibly take a 7-point lead and completely different final minute. Instead, he makes the "ghost" call, ND scores, 3-point game.
So much for the myth of ND having all these fans in New York. Place was a partisan SFA crowd.Piscataway Mike and myself were at the games today at Barclays and on Friday.
Overwhelming pro SFA crowd....was disappointed they lost
Notre Dame never attracted huge fan support even when playing at MSG in BET.So much for the myth of ND having all these fans in New York. Place was a partisan SFA crowd.
Brad Underwood (SFA coach) was explicitly calling for 4 low on those possessions with Walkup doing what he did. Obviously he usually scores or gets to the free throw line in those situation, but in the case he did not. I personally don't like the whole taking the air out of the ball strategy to close games with a lead, but coaches forever use this tactic and some get away with it (Iowa vs Temple on Friday) and others don't.Walkup is a very good player....I wish Rutgers Had him, but, he laid an egg on those two possessions. See my previous post. Walkup was doing EXACTLY what his coach wanted him to do. He didn't finish or get fouled, that was the difference.Teams have to control what they can on the court....they can't do anything about a call, but, they can make sure they don't take horrible shots with a minute or so left in the game.
Walkup tried to be star that wins the game and he blow it with bad shots at the end instead of running the offense and try to get off another open shot....which they were making all game. Tried to be the hero and ended up the goat.
How about the foul call on the tip out that Nuts mentioned? That is another one. A series of bad calls at the end gave the Irish life. The tip in was an awesome play.We made 1 more play than they did. I've seen the replay twice and Auguste didn't walk. Hustle play by Pfleuger and we're still alive.
I thought Jackson got hit----if the defender was planted and he goes vertical it's a no call or an offensive but he came from an angle and bumped him. They're going to call that.
Getting the cheap 2 off the inbounds to me was a huge play. An easy one with no time taken off the clock is something you can't have happen in that type of game.
Crowd was pro SFA no doubt about it.
