I'm kinda with you. I'm arguing that if the idea was to get the four best teams, it failed. Just like the BCS often failed. The system needs to be more black and white so you know what you have to do.

Expand to 8. ND has to join the ACC full time (I know, never happen). 5 P5 conference CHAMPS, highest ranked G5 (looking at you UCF), 2 wild cards.

It gives the Georgias and OSUs of this year their shot. It gives UCF their shot so they can't claim that absurd national championship like last year (and maybe again this year). And every other P5 team knows exactly what they need to do all season long.

ND, whom I hate, clearly deserved to be in. Played a tough schedule and went undefeated.

I would have picked Ohio State over Okie.

They played a decent schedule but not tough. Michigan and Syracuse would be considered their signature wins. And one of those happened in week one.

coulda shoulda woulda. Alabama > Georgia bc they won the SEC. Oklahoma I don't know, so I agree they get bid over UGA. But my point is neither worth it in playoff structure because know two best teams.

They also beat Vandy, Northwestern, Wake Forest, Stanford, and Pitt. And what is wrong with winning in Week 1? It was still Michigan, who ended up ranked top 10. Comparable to Okie's and they didn't lose any of them. Hard to argue they shouldn't be in it.

They're undefeated and didn't only beat up on the sisters of the poor, so I agree they needed to be in under the current system.

But the current system is where I have a problem. ND not having to play a conference championship game is a tough pill to swallow for me. Let's hypothetically say ND is a full ACC member and had to play Clemson in the conference championship game. Let's say they looked just as bad in that game as they did against Clemson today. Would the committee still put ND into the playoff? Over an OSU team who won their conference championship game?

1 Team has the power of an entire conference - they get an automatic final 4 spot if they qualify over any other Conference.

How does that happen - of course somebody is getting paid off..where do they get the cash - that would NBC Contract cash - who is totally into college football...they give any other team cash? Nope.

Not sure why these SEC guys go for this BS - they are a pretty powerful.

My guess is it is not 1950 anymore and the NCAA will be forced to tell ND - get your *** in a Conference cause your not good in football.

Think they will be forced into a conference within the next 5 years.

People are surprised as if they expected Oklahoma to magically find a defense to stop the beat Alabama offense in their history, after giving up like 50 points a game in the big 12. No shocker here, OSU should have been in over Oklahoma no question no matter how you slice it. If you truly want best 4 and don’t care about conf. Championships, then Georgia should have been in over both of them. If you care about what’s most fair, then UCF should have been in over all of those guys. UCF would handle Purdue soundly, and probably beat Texas.

The NCAA can not and will not "force" Notre Dame into a conference. The NCAA had no control over conference realignment, did you folks not notice? When it comes to football the NCAA has very little power at the FBS level; it can't even decline to certify another lame bowl game or risk an anti-trust suit it would lose.

Under the current system, it is very hard to argue against Notre Dame. Not an awesome schedule, but no FCS teams either. But most people knew they would get humiliated just as they did. At least Oklahoma scored a bunch of points against a great defense. ND fell behind, too, but did nothing. And the big story line the past few days was a top Clemson defender wasn't going to play. Yeah, that mattered.

This is all the opinion of a committee. You could have said before today that Clemson would have beaten Notre Dame in an ACC championship game, and most of us would have agreed with you, but a 12-1 Notre Dame would still get more consideration than it should just because it's Notre Dame. Outdated thinking, to be sure, but don't kid yourselves. If anyone is getting a "second chance" if lost a CCG, it would be Notre Dame. Especially one that was 12-0 going into it.

Four best means four best. They often miss out on one. Hell, if you go back and look, USC had a better resume last year than Alabama.

If Army or BYU went undefeated, they'd be passed over like UCF. BYU beat Wisconsin, Arizona and played Cal and Washington. They played cupcakes too. Maybe ND needs to play Army, BYU and UCF every year. Winner of the independents gets in if they go undefeated.

There is no reason that ND should be treated like a conference unto itself.

Speaking of conference championships, didn't the "Committee" place the value of them at a very high level in thier considerations?
If so that parameter should bump non conference teams to the back of the line.

Did they deserve spot over 1 loss OS or even over undefeated UCF. And please don’t tell me UCF played no one. They would beat many P5 teams

Then this type of thought process makes "Conference Champions" meaningless. Why even play for Conference Championships?

ND went out of their way to play mostly ACC teams and PAC 10 teams which are the two weakest conference. They were lucky also to play teams like Texas and Florida State that were in transition with new coaches. Maryland beat Texas 2 years in a row.

If Georgia and OSU win big it helps momentum to go to 8 teams. ND was undefeated so I think they deserved in. They had USC and FSU on their schedule so they were not scheduling softies, don't think you can fault them they those traditional powers were down this year. ND is not the first team to get beat up in the playoffs, and it was close early on, with a key kickoff return fumble being overturned by the refs. Kelly insisted it was not conclusively out of bounds, which I agree with because while the nose of the football was over the line, with the arc of the football I don't know if you can say it touched the turf.

it should be best 4 teams or a 6-8 team playoff and even then ND has to join a conference or they are out. Same with UCF. Need to play big boys and take some lumps all year long.

Georgia May be #2 or #3 and if so a hair behind Clemson. OSU and OU would have been an interesting matchup as a play in game.

The worst part is Clemson has a bye in the first round and Bama has a challenge. Really screwed up.

I don't really follow college basketball that much, but yeah probably. It will never happen because they're never doing away with March Madness, but I am all for taking the guesswork out of determining playoff teams. Make the criteria black and white, get rid of the committees deciding who moves on and whose season is over, and just have a playoff format with a clearly defined path that everyone understands -- win your division and advance to the conference championship game, win your conference and advance to the national playoffs.

It seems easy enough.

But then everyone complains if Pitt/Northwestern pull an upset in the Championship game.
Well too bad - everyone knows the rules going in.

Go back to the BCS computers and let them decide it.

To me Ohio State with one loss and ND undefeated with no championship game were even. My guess is strength of schedule favored OSU.

That’s why I keep saying that you guys are in a great position regardless the coach because if you somehow had an 06 year in the Big Ten you would no doubt make the playoffs. Whether it’s Ash or anybody else, you are in elite company just like UK and Vandy are here in the SEC. You get a chance on the big stage every week to state your presence. Notre Dame doesn’t go thru the grind of a conference schedule. They also don’t play the same schedule every year except Stanford, USC, and Navy I guess. They play a ton of home and neutral site games that is an advantage to them. Put ND in the Big Ten East and see what happens.

Is it true, you guys turned down ND because they didn’t want to come to Piscataway? They wanted your home game in Metlife? Good job Rutgers if true. That’s how the big boys play.
