Just more reason why men's college basketball continues to be my least favorite college sport. More than any other college sport the on court results are totally tainted by the buying of players and the interference from outside money forces. As I have said a number of times, the fact that the LSU coach still has his job should tell you all you need to know about where things are with this sport.

Agreed and it really ramped up when one and done started. If all players could go pro whenever they wanted (or at minimum out of high school), these issues would be non-existent. I've seen some that say "well the college game would be watered down due to less talent", what like 5% less? Who cares, bring it on.

There will still be some issues in football, because it's harder to judge (like Cam Newton) but who cares. Johnny Manziel would have been gone long before he got in trouble. Not to mention the injuries (Tua, the tailback at South Carolina a few years ago, etc.). I mean what business does Thor have playing another year? He should have went pro after his freshman year. Clowney, the LSU tailback, countless others.

Of course MSU got bit in the *** more than any other program in the country but I still say let them go pro if they want to.

I’m hopeful that investigation conducted by the FBI and the US Attorney’s Office of Southern New York wasn’t a huge swing and a miss. One would think that at the very least, the shoe companies are behaving differently. If those changes reduce the cash flow to the AAU culture, then that’s a win. Because that culture is the root of the problem.

I had a high school coach tell me recently that a silver lining of the Covid crisis is that they likely won’t lose their players to AAU ball this summer. Which is a good thing, IMO.

I'd love to see Duke and Coach K taken down! Then move on to KY. Again, it won't happen because of the NCAA collusion (greed).

Toothpaste is out of the tube there, hot tub. No trends, in any sport, is headed towards college. The only reason football still relies so heavily on the in-place 'system' of high schools and colleges is because it's so expensive and harder to administer. Soccer has gone toward clubs and you are seeing more and more guys go to the clubs rather than go to college. It just is what it is.

If you want to keep college viable you have to take the big money out of it. You can't just pass more rules. You need incentives in place to keep the AAU and NCAA world from colliding. By allowing kids to go pro you take a big chunk of it out. There will still be some sleaze, but that's life, deal with it.

Fart. Let them go pro out of high school, 80% of this garbage goes away.

Players can go pro out of high school. Where the 17 have you been? Players have been doing it for years.

Jeremy Tyler over a decade ago left HS early even
Brandon Jennings
Stargvegas' oven Latavious Williams
Emmanuel Mudiay
Thon Maker
Thon's brother, Matur Maker
Things cousin Maker Maker
Terrance Ferguson
LaMelo Ball
RJ Hampton

Then there are 4-6 from this '20 signing class who will be paid professionally coming out of HS.
And there are more examples from prior years, the list I rattled off is just who I can quickly think of since your comment doesn't deserve more thought.

Even with allowing HS players to go to the NBA(which is an NBA decision and not an ncaa decision...not sure if you grasp that), that doesn't eliminate schools and shoe companies paying for players.

Again, the NBA won't let players be drafted who are from the US and note yet 1 year removed from their high school graduating class. Thsts an NBA rule and not an ncaa rule.

All players can go pro when they want. They can say they are professional, sign with representation, and go get paid thru endorsements and salary. They can play stateside in the Gleague, NBL(aussie), China, Israel, Europe, etc etc etc.
I mention those locations because HS players went to those places/leagues already. It's been happening, man.

As to your claim that paying players ramped up after 1 and done was implemented, perhaps it did. Or perhaps that coincided with when Twitter, social media, and message boards exploded in use so that information was more readily available to all. More importantly, all that exploded in popularity and allows rumor to be more available to all.
Players have been rumored to be paid back in the 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s, and early 00s.
SMU got the death penalty in the late 80s. The movie Blue Chips was in part about paying for players and that was in the early 90s.
Fab5 at Michigan was early 90s.
Paying players is not new and was rampant before the 1 and done went into effect. Rumors of it just weren't as easily spread like they have been in the last 15 years since 1 and done started.

No way, for real? Asterisk, Asterisk, em-17-ing Asterisk

Yes it does. The majority anyway. They only target the very cream of the crop. You see, I'm all for doing the things that clear out MOST of the sleaze, not all of it, because getting rid of all of it isn't realistic.

This is why MLB and NCAA baseball is the greatest system and college is the least corrupted? Because they work together. Sure, it's not as popular as football and basketball but there's a lot of middle ground in there.

I think the only way anything happens to anyone at Duke is if the IRS starts really tracking large sums of money changing hands and no one paying taxes on it.

Money can make the NCAA blind and give sight to the blind govt. all at the same time. It is god to both of them.

Once again- players already can be paid professionally. Your argument sucks because it is based on the idea that what is happening isn't happening.

As for ncaa baseball and mlb- you are heavily discounting how unpopular college baseball is. For most baseball fans across the country, it is an afterthought, if its even a thought.

Corruption tends to exist where there is money to be made. College baseball produces no money, for all intents and purposes. Obviously there is some corruption, but its certainly smaller.

My suggestions are right because they would reduce corruption, and further differentiate amateur vs. pro.

It seems to me you think the NCAA establishes the draft rules. They don’t. Which leads me back to my original comment about people not really grasping what the NCAA is.
