All of the games so far tonight have been fantastic games.

Also Doug Gottlieb just compared this year's Kansas team to the 2000 Tulsa team in terms of overall team quickness

Kansas starting to open things up on Purdue...KUs defense is probably the best I've seen it since Self got there. They have really bottle up Swanigan and Purdue doesn't really have a 2nd option that can be relied upon that much.

And WVa's last possession looked like Woj drew it up

This is honestly so depressing. We are so far removed from the talent and coaching of 17 years ago.

We are nearly two decades beyond being that good.

I remember all of the 90s like yesterday.

Then I have to get a grip and look at my Elite 8 pictures and realize I could have birthed a nearly high school graduate since then. Who would have zero concept of my alma mater being a basketball power.

It's been a looooong time, people. And we're not objectively closer.

Great finish to the Gonzaga game. Too bad the refs had try and f**k it up with that 6 or 8 min delay over an obvious call.
I think there was confusion over what the actual interpretation should be as well as figuring out the clock first. If the clock read 2:00 minutes left, they can't review it. So you figure that out first. Next, most reviews of ball possession and who knocked it out is to determine who touched it last. That play got mucked up because the ball never went out. The inadvertent whistle rule on the books is stupid as it requires you to a jump ball situation. Had the arrow been in Gonzaga's favor, they would have gotten the ball and WVa screwed by an over zealous ref. I'd be in favor since there wasn't a change in possession ever on that play, just give the ball back to WVa in that situation without switching the arrow. In the end it only ruined the flow of the game but probably didn't affect the outcome, but it could have.

My son loves TU basketball and he looks at the banners in the arena like they are ancient history. He has a unique "bond" with TU basketball as my wife went into labor during the 1st CUSA game at the DonRey against Memphis...

In many ways we have started over with our two NCAA appearances recently. But we should not discount those appearances. We just need to make sure there is not a decade wait for the next one or they are wasted.

They need to Allow one "coach's (for each team ) review per game and remove the late in the first half timeout. When an obvious missed call cannot be reviewed it is a terrible penalty.

I do agree with your comment, but West Virginia is a tough team to ref. They are reaching in & slapping & bumping into opposing players on almost every possession. If you call every "foul" on West Virginia, most of their team would foul out.

I didn't think it was one sided, just poor.

I saw one clean block by each team called a foul while a block by WVa that was mostly wrist and very little ball was called a block. Lots of ticky tack fouls on the big men of both teams where they allowed two players a tough battle for 10 seconds then called a foul for it lasting too long I guess, LOL. WVa guards had several fouls on them that I really questioned and I was not pulling for them.

I loved the WVa defense and how the Zags kept battling and played some damn good D of their own.

I thought the announcers were pretty bad too.

A1 "And a GREAT play by the WVa player on that defense!"
A2 "Um, A1, that was a foul"
A1 "Yea, but ,man! If it wasn't, that would've been outstanding highlight material!"

A1 "WVa defense is just dominating this game. The Zags really don't have an answer."
A2 "Well, the Zags lead 18-11"
A1 "Yea, the WVa defense is just frustrating the Zags and the Zags shooting percentage is just awful at 33%."
A2 "And WVa is shooting just 22%"
A1 "Yea, the Zags are playing tough but WVa has the best scoring offense in the B12 at 86 points per game and have almost scored 3,000 points this season."
A2 "It looks like WVa may struggle to reach their average."
A1 "Yea, the Zags scored a lot in their conference play but you have to wonder about their level of competition when that drops in the NCAA's"
A2 "The NCAA tournament usually brings a higher level of competition, especially in the Sweet 16 and beyond and WVa is really struggling on offense"
A1 "Yea WVa brings some tough defense and high scoring offense to this game. They are relentless."

The run Kansas went on in the 2nd half where the game went from 66-61 to a final of 98-66 was very reminiscent of that TU team as well.

This is the inconsistency in college officiating. Where most teams who pressed and were physical would get called, WVa doesn't. The bodying up in the trap, the reaches, etc. get called against us, and they don't get called against Cincinnati and WVa. There really is a psychological component to refereeing and what you expect

We did beat two top 15 teams last year.

North Carolina heads to another Elite 8. Regular season conference champs, Kansas & North Carolina, are both looking strong. Baylor looks like Tulsa on our worst night of the year.

Every elite 8 that Bill Self goes to at KU is another sheep that jumps the fence at OSU....
