Personally, I'm not a fan of Hardin's flopping or the idea that any player can shoot, then deliberately extend their landing by kicking our their legs, thus landing several feet beyond the point of release, etc.
Is it time to amend the rules, perhaps create a "protected safe for landing zone" of a foot or two from the point where the ball leaves the hand?
Doesn't seem remotely fair that a shooter should be able to release a shot, then kick his legs forward a few feet in order to draw a foul in a technicality. In fact, I think if a defender establishes position before the shooter leaves his feet to shoot, the shooter should not be at all entitled to any, "extra room" to "complete the shot" or land beyond what would be normal. If it's a running jumper, let the official decide if there was reasonable space to land, but not allow any, "kick-out" of the legs to be a part of the equation. Kinda like the charge vs blocking foul, only extended to include all areas with the express goal of preventing, "kicking the legs out" and/ or, "excessive jumping forward" artificially beyond the shooter's natural stroke solely in an effort draw a foul when such foul obviously does not interfere with the natural shot.
What say the board?
