NBA ratings down.

It's going to be interesting to see how this plays out. If this is a harbinger of future rating performance then TV revenues will certainly decline. If TV revenues decline to any significant permanent level then the owners will need to re-negotiate player compensation. And that fight with the player's association would be monumental.

Of course, ratings will probably be back to respectable levels once crowds return.

the F'ed up seasons for NBA and MLB are not helping. Hard for me to get excited about a 60 game baseball "season" when there are 7 inning games, man on 2nd to start extra innings, etc. All feels like a made for TV event, like a TIger vs. Phil shootout, rather than real sports to me.

If you guys let NBA players making a statement on equality ruin it for you, than you have bigger issues you need to address.

The only sports I feel a need to watch are my kids’ teams at school and the Kentucky Wildcats. Anything else I don’t care about anymore. If pro sports wants to get political I won’t watch it. I used to get my mind off of politics and other junk by watching sports. I kind of like watching the old baseball/basketball games from the ‘70s and ‘80s on ESPNclassics. It was pure sports back then with no agenda but to win.

Constant political message has not endeared NBA to general public.

This is it. It has turned a lot of folks off & rightfully so. Its the "demand" to pay homage to the narrative that is a turn off.

I'm not a racist in any shape, form, or fashion so let me explain before I'm labeled one. The phrase "Black Lives Matters" which 99.99% of people totally agree with, INCLUDING MYSELF. But the organization BLM is a political, ungodly trash organization whose goal is to dismantle the nuclear family & the idea of cist gender per their own core beliefs. The organization has very little to do with actual Black Lives.

Wow. Who would have thought that fewer people would watch games during a work/school time? Or that fewer would watch a makeshift playoff?
I’ve been saying for the last few years that the NBA is ruining itself by drafting kids on potential, rather than letting them get fan followings and developing their skill set in college. Add the political stances just after taking non/political stances.
Add another- the bs of taking “days off”... This and other stuff is not relatable to average person, who is not an NBA fan.

I took away a totally different message than you. Basically, they are saying they are accepting of others and see the community itself as part of their extended family. Not sure what is wrong with that. Live and let live....judge not.
That said, I don't wanna hear about Black Lives, Blue Lives, Purple Lives or any lives once the game has tipped off. Leave the politics on the sideline or for some other time than game time.

The hell you say.
You have a political message great, do it after the season. If that’s a problem form your own league.
I could care less what your religion or skin color or damn sure your politics.
Look at the ratings for the NBA, NASCAR, MLB. They well may NEVER return to the glory days

Now is not the time for their political messages, some of the leadership should be smart enough to know this. They are not helping their cause. More people are turned off with each day that passes. It won't bother me if they ever play another game. College football and basketball are all I watch and that's enough for me.

I'm sure it's several things. Protests don't help.. but again, that crowd of people was just asking for some reason to stop watching. I think a lot of people see this season as a wash. Bubble games were not that important aside for a select few.

I'd be curious to see how the ratings improve or not now that it's the playoffs.

agree about MLB, feels cheap. I’ll watch the Reds because I’m a diehard but that’s about it. DH in NL is fine but 7 inning doubleheader’s and starting with men on base is little league crap

The Lebron/Breonna Taylor and jersey stuff is getting very annoying, though. I get it. I just wouldn't stop watching because of that. Ignoring it, to me, is a better play. I get to keep watching what I like, and I couldn't give a **** about Lebron's politics. It's the ultimate way to nullify their movement.

NBA is definitely a players driven league.

It's almost like NBA fans are more fans of the players than the teams.

Agree, teens flock to the hype machine of a player more than becoming a die hard of a team. That’ll come back to bite the NBA someday

I don’t think that’s the reason for low ratings now. That’s bringing politics into sports backlash. Nobody wants that. Grown men have left twitter and Instagram to get away from that crap, why would we watch it on tv?

Personally, I’ve turned the NBA off since they licked the Chinese boot so shamelessly. That matters to me more than BLM, as I now see the NBA as a pro-Chinese, anti-American entity.

While I disagree with most of BLM’s core tenets (other than black lives do matter, duh), the NBA’s liberal leaning and bigotry towards conservative viewpoints is nothing new.

Triggered much? Most of us do not give a damn about their political statements whether about "equality," defunding the police, how much America sucks, whether eating meat is murder or whether they drive an electric car to save the planet. We don't give a F about their personal opinions while on the floor. SHUT THE EFF UP AND PLAY.

100% agree. Wish they’d keep it to their social media, where I don’t see it. I like living in my own bubble, not worrying about social or political issues. No interest to me, don’t bring it to my tv

First, the league has put politics over product. Secondly, every time I turn it on, it doesn't resemble basketball. 9 out of 10 shots is chucked 3s and simply horrible to watch. Look, to each their own, and I've tried, but for the life of me I can't figure out what these NBA fans are in love with.

Truly making a statement on equality is one thing. Individual racism is alive and well in this country, from all angles, and it unfortunately isn't going away anytime soon. But shoving a Marxist, freedom-hating organization like BLM down our throats at every turn is another thing entirely. They don't give a damn about equality.

not to burst all of your bubbles but...

NBA revenue has been skyrocketing... Going from 8b to 8.75b from two years ago to last year.

Obviously, this year their revenue will be extremely down due to COVID.

Not sure why people discuss one metric to discuss the state of sports.

EDIT: its kind of same with all sports. Revenue is going up. MLB, NFL, NHL...etc.

The NBA and NFL both suck.
