Doc Rivers is such a fraud. Dude continuously has unreal talented teams that always fizzle out. It took 4 hall of famers (yes, I’m including Rajon Rondo as a HOF, suck it if you disagree) to win one despite of him.

umm.. what?

Kemba, the 16th pick and a future 2nd round... for Al Horford (at the end of his career), Moses Brown (who?), and a future 2nd round?

This can't be a real trade can it?
Thunder GM def has earned his paycheck. Dude has been loading up on draft picks.

It makes sense for Boston. Kemba is still owed $73 million for the next two years and he can’t stay healthy. So they save $20 million in cap space and don’t have to worry about him taking touches away from Tatum and Brown. I’m pretty sure Boston has another move in mind to go along with this trade.

Looking further, this move saves Boston over $32 million in cap space because Horford’s contract is not fully guaranteed. So you get rid of an albatross contract and gain significant cap space? Excellent move. Now what they do with that cap space is another issue.

Ah ok, so it's really just a move to clear cap space.. and both teams are really just trying to get rid of pieces.

Still.. I wouldn't think Boston would need to ADD in their near-lottery pick.. OKC really isn't giving up much here, just taking on some more cap space. So I feel like they might have been able to let go of Horford/Moses just fore Kemba.. but I guess not.

What a wild week in the NBA and I’m not talking about what happened on the court.

I can see OKC trading Kemba again
It’s about to get even wilder. Dallas back to the JR Ewing days and multiple teams are whale hunting without harpoons (assets to do a deal). The draft this year is doo-doo and teams will have to rely on garage sales to try and improve rosters. Classic!

Stevens #1 objective was to get Kemba TF out. Goal accomplished.
Well, it was not really Kemba that he was trying to rid of as much as his bloated contract. This was just about clearing up salary cap space so they can afford to go shopping for better parts later.

Yes, therein lies the main agenda of my post.

But is it worth trading your 16th pick to off-load salary? And doesn't AL Horford also have a ****** deal? Not sure how much is left on his.

Idk, I never like trading assets just get RID of a player. But I guess Boston sees this as an opportunity to win now. Just not sure they really are contenders either way. Hopefully they have something else up their sleeve. They're the only Boston team I like..

The whole draft might not be great.. but there's talks that this year's top5 might be the best top5 we've had since the 2003 draft. Those top guys.. Kuminga, Green, Suggs, Cade, and Mobley are no joke. Sucks to be the 6th or 7th pick though.. huge drop off there.

Think the Celtics would have spaced cleared sooner with Horford not guaranteed.

Here’s hoping in a couple of years people are asking how Isaiah Jackson wasn’t drafted higher.

Kemba has one of the worst contracts in the league and was a bad fit with the way Tatum and Brown have improved so much. Moses Brown had a solid year, once he became a starter he averaged 9.6 points and 10.5 boards with 52.5% shooting in 24.7 minutes a game.

You got to give someone something more of value when dealing them a contract as bad as Kemba's is, especially when said team is gaining less financial flexibility in the process.

Ah I was not privy to his stats once he became a starter so maybe that makes more sense. Because on the surface, he seems like a throw-away piece.

It's not like Kemba is a slouch, though. He's still worthy of good NBA money. 20/5/5 guy going to a team that's likely not contending for a few years anyways. And his injury concerns might be largely due to the COVID seasons.. he was averaging like 75 game seasons to start his career. I'm going to guess that Horford's career is likely done as any meaningful starter. He was already leaning that way during his LAST stint with Boston.

I do get that Boston seemingly had to get rid of him, but Kemba has 2 years left on his contract not like 3-4 years for $40+ million.. feels like Celtics could have gotten more. I bet OKC figures they will just endure his last two years, maybe make the playoffs.. and then unload him.

COVID doesn't give you knee injuries.

And from everything I read, the market for Kemba was not good. It's a terrible contract given his inability to stay healthy. Nearly $74 million for a guy you can never count on to be able to play.

The announcer just went to call galinari "Calipari". Then Maxey hit an insanely acrobatic reverse layup and he then said "speaking of Calipari that's who Maxey played for"
But dayum, Trae Young! He was absolutely feeling it those last few minutes and that cross-over move then 3 against Maxey is becoming his playoff norm.

Trae Young, as a head coach will make you want to pull your hair out on one play and give him a bear hug on the next. If Nate McMillan had hair it would be half black/half gray.
