That Seattle 79 title team was one of those brief flares, with lucky timing, but also memorable if you were just starting to watch basketball. Jack Sikma, Gus Williams, Fred Brown, Lonnie Shelton, and the 2 Johnsons, Dennis and John.
The Spurs and OKC (and really, the Celtics too) have very similar ideas about where basketball is headed. A whole lot of athletic wing types who can shoot well enough and cover the floor like crazy on defense. No real power forward, very mobile big guys, and no real reliance on a main point guard (I know the Spurs have De'Aaron Fox, but he's always been an attacking, scoring point guard).
The Spurs won because Wembanyama ate Chet Holmgren alive, and because OKC didn't have that second scorer beside SGA. And the Spurs might have the future edge because they're simply taller all over the floor. But I'd be surprised if we don't see a repeat of this series in next year's Western Conference final.
