Nothing to do with the deplorable UK situation, but I just watched about 10 minutes of Heat and Bucks, and I just can’t believe they pay these guys what they do. Run up and down the court and launch. Rinse. Repeat. I’m 54 and give me a month or two to get in shape where I can jog up and down the floor >5 times consecutively without collapsing, and I’ll bet I can make as many as they do. Hell, I might even be able to win a few games.

Defense is 100% non existent. I’ll bet I could grab several rebounds as well. I hadn’t watched in a great while, but wow.
I think Milwaukee made about 75 3s in the first half. Guess why? Yep. That’s it.

I had to edit this in because I forgot to mention something. The announcers are even worse than the product on the floor.

@yabbadabbadoo You are sort of right... the NBA is a joke in the regular season.

The playoffs however is the best basketball you can watch.

The college game could learn a lot from the NBA... a few of my favorite examples would be widening the lane.. calling less travels and having 6 fouls.

It's unwatchable, everyone plays for themselves, there are number of sites on YT that break down the games and show all the flaws, players in the NBA are able to score much easier than college. Defenders play off the ball sometimes 15-20ft away, Westbrook and Harden immediately come to mind, all of these guys are like a union now, there's no competitive edge. Ultimately, the vast majority could give two flying Fs who wins, it's about getting the massive payday and living large, they're like bots, in front of the camera it's "I just wanna win, blah blah blah" behind the scenes it's non-stop partying and living large. That approach is reflective in the game, there are no Alphas!

Only 1 step past half court, that big guy for the Bucks took 3 long steps and dunked it. Could have sworn I saw a red carpet on the floor. The Heat watched him like it was a lay up drill.

84 threes were attempted between the Bucks and Heat tonight, just totally unwatchable, everyone just stands on the three point line, or down in the post waiting to put back a three attempt, that's basically the NBA in a nutshell, can't forget the organ and rap music in the background.

Don’t forget Shaq and Barkley or whoever it is, that’s who it sounds like, enlightening everybody with their wisdom

Maybe it's because they want to beat the champs but I watched last nights Laker game and Portland played great defense against Lebron and AD. Very entertaining game to watch too.

It was an unusual game. It’s not like that often. Bucks were on fire early and the Heat had to shoot threes to try and keep up.

They would run you off of the court. This is laughable.

It really is. I actually laughed . People act like the 80s and nineties had these immaculate teams. The 80s and 90s never even had seen the type of players today. Obviously Bird Magic Jordan would dominate any era. Just as Bron Durant Giannis etc would dominate any era.

Is the game softer then the 80s and 90s? Sure it is. But the players are more skilled in just about every area.

The NBA is not for everyone, but college basketball is becoming unwatchable for me even more than the NBA. You touch a guy in college and it’s a foul. Two opposing players hustling for a loose ball? Foul. You use any kind of physicality on defense? Foul. A guy stands still placing his hands on his balls while attempting to play no defense whatsoever? Offensive foul.

Guaranteed foul fest every other game. P**** ball is how the refs and the NCAA want college to be.

Yep. It's almost like it's rigged at times. Notice the NBA is a clean fast paced game that flows. College is just terrible now. I remember that Auburn Kentucky game from last year. Just an absolute joke. A national televised prime time game.

Heads should have rolled after that game. If that pos Mark Emmett cared this game would be something so much better.

NCAA basketball referees are an absolute joke. They should raise the fouls to 20 to get into a bonus thanks to the incompetence of the refs. Everyone is in double bonus with 10 min to go in the game. It's absolutely pathetic.

There is zero chance you'd be able to score or "grab several rebounds" against NBA players. Are you insane?

More skilled, I agree, but the product is much more boring with the style of play in today’s game. At least for me. I can’t watch it.

You're joking right? Give you 2 months so you can get in shape in order to jog 5x and hit a few jumpers along with some boards??

You couldn't even get a shot off old man!! You watch 1 NBA game that you didn't like and now you could run with them? Bet ya $100 you wear bluejean shorts, own a pair of Monarchs, and can't do a fundamental lay-up with your weak hand.

Analytics is killing the enjoyment of pro basketball and baseball

At one point, every NBA team ran pick-and-roll at the top of the key and now, due to the influence of analytics, most teams jack up a ton of 3s. Even those that don't hit a percentage high enough that it makes sense (>35%, imo). Many teams turn down wide open 16-footers to pass out to a guy 24+ feet from the hoop for a 3. A lot of possessions boil down to one guy handling the the ball for the majority of the clock and 4 guys just hanging around the 3-point line. I don't enjoy watching NBA games much anymore, either. What I've come to believe (and it may not be true) is today's NBA doesn't have a lot of true, 'automatic' midrange jumpshooters anymore. The few guys who do shoot them don't seem to be as accurate as previous eras. I guess the analytics suggest you shouldn't shoot midrange shots but concentrate on 3s, FTs and dunks. That seems to be the majority of NBA offense in today's game.

However, they are collectively among the finest athletes in professional sports. They do play defense but the rules are so geared towards the offensive player (very few traveling/palming calls, the 'and 1' continuation, no hand checking, etc.) that they limit the effectiveness of even the most feared defender. Nobody is 'getting in shape for 2 months' and scoring against NBA players.

The college game has slipped due to the very best players generally only sticking around for 1 year and even those players are not finished products while in college. Think how much better Tim Duncan's fundamentals were when he came to the NBA vs the OAD crowd. Just knew the game better, better passer, team defender, got better positioning on rebounds, avoided the dumb foul, etc. Sure, he's an all-timer but I'm talking about basic fundamentals of how to play the game. Look at Zion, for example. Obvious #1 overall draft pick but he needed/still needs to develop post moves, a midrange jumper, be better on defense, etc. Another year or two and he'd be a much more polished product and the level of play in college would be better if more like him stuck around for a couple more years.

The really good HS kids have played AAU ball which teaches nothing about fundamentals (as UK fans are painfully aware of), play one year in college where they start to perhaps grasp some of the nuances and then it's off to the NBA. I mean, previous generations of college PGs didn't need to 'work on their handle' at the NBA level, they learned how to handle the ball well in college over 3+ years. Look at UK's recent history. Several of our OAD PGs were not adept at dribbling, passing, setting up the offense, creating shots for teammates while at UK but went on to the NBA anyway.

Yep. Today's NBA isn't close to those days, which is why I don't watch it. I hate to be the "Get off my lawn" guy...but GET OFF MY LAWN. :p
You could even throw in the early 80's Sixer teams (Malone, Irving, Jones, Cheeks etc)

Why is Cal working so hard to get these guys in a league that is a joke! They should be going to class and get some kind of degree! Then they could have something to fall back on.

The 80s Celtics, Lakers, or even Pistons would kill teams now. No doubt in my mind.
Not if they were playing by today’s defensive rules. Those old Piston teams would nearly all foul out by halftime if they played that way today.

Thats something many people who criticize today’s NBA defense don’t understand. The difference is mostly due to the rule changes, rather than lack of effort. All that physicality and handchecking that was allowed in the 80s and 90s is illegal and strictly called today. The reason they no longer play defense that way is because it’s no longer allowed.

Some of you people are so shallow. Me talking about playing in the NBA was all in jest. Jeez. Sometimes I think you guys are 8 years old. NBA is a joke, admit it.

Anyway, go ahead and put those posters on your wall and set your recorders for tomorrow nights 3 point contest.

They err in the other direction. The **** they let them get by with is absurd at this point. Its been trending this way going on two decades.

Its like college and NBA are polar opposites in the reasons for why they're terrible. Cam we get back to a happy medium with both and make them watchable again?

At least on college I have UK, as bad as we are presently. The NBA isn't even slightly compelling.

I used to enjoy college basketball a lot more, but much prefer the NBA these days for casual watching. It's a vastly more skilled game, a lot less fouls and you are watching the best in the world do what they do.

The trope about defense is overplayed. If you pay attenton, you'll see a lot of physicality in the game, but good offense beats good defense every time.

The only thing I'll give college is there's still some tiny semblance of trying to play through the post, which has completely disappeared in the NBA.

Overall the NBA is more enjoyable product than college basketball. Sure theres random great college games but id rather watch elite NBA guys run up and down the court with minimal defense than average as hell college players with 50 fouls a game.

Would love to see LeBron play against the Detroit Bad Boys. He couldn't play for crying every time Laimbeer & Mahorn hammered him every time he tried to drive. You think he cries a bunch today ? He would probably set out every game against the bad boys for, you know for rest.

Man, please, LeBron would fold like an accordion against a team like that.
