But, but, that would mean accepting responsibility for your own words and actions. Will never happen, much easier to play the victim and make the front page that way than to earn being there with your play and positivity. Also, the Earth is round.

I think too many people mix up the "getting paid" part. A lot of you seem to think they are paid as entertainment and that somehow diminishes their right to have opinions or make their voices heard like this is ancient Rome and the gladiators. They are paid what they get paid because they earned it. They put in the worked and someone thought they were worth the contract they have and we get to watch and enjoy the sport. We pay for tickets to be allowed to enjoy the sport at a high level. We don't pay the players to entertain us. There is a difference. A lot of ya'll seem to think they don't deserve the same treatment and respect as other people. Not one single athlete deserves to have food or objects thrown at them, or racial slurs or personal attacks yelled at them just because they make money playing a sport. The biggest problem is really they're mostly black and a lot of the demographic of these boards don't see them as equals to start with. Much less having different racial or political stances and being outspoken and using their platform.
I think there's some truth to that. But any job will have requirements.. some that aren't even related to how well you "do" your job itself.. and if your "deliverables" aren't deemed appropriate by the customer, then sales will drop. I tried for months to defend the NBA's drop in viewership.. but it's hard to these days. Yes, there are other factors.. but many fans are tired of the wokeness, there's no other way around it. People simply aren't watching because of this. I, personally, find it crazy. Because at the end of the day it's just a sport. I don't care about Lebron's politics anymore than I care about Aubrey Huff's.
Unfortunately, it seems that these players are costing the league revenue, and in turn it's going to affect their future contracts. I don't see any way the next TV deals will be worth as much. I don't see how salaries can continue to go up.
FWIW.. I've ALWAYS defended the player when compared to the fan. And It's mostly been me defending black athletes. What we've seen, even to Kyrie Irving is unacceptable.. but that doesn't mean the players are 100% innocent here.
If a fan chucked a bucket of popcorn at that guy, I doubt any of it would even make it to the floor.

To be fair, with 24 hour news and social media seemingly everything gets covered these days. It used to take something pretty extreme to mark it out of local/regional coverage, now you dump popcorn on them and it’s national news
And as a person that used to work in sports and dealt a lot with the history of the schools' teams, record keeping prior to the digital era and especially prior to the 90s is often woefully bad. Hell even going into the 90s was a bit of a hit and miss ordeal. If I had anything prior to the 90s, it was essentially a miracle. I guarantee you something happened in like the 1950s that has long been forgotten but would have been plastered all over the news and internet if it happened these days and the record would be there "forever."
Going to a game allows the fan the opportunity to cheer on their team. Every fan probably yells disparaging things at the other team ( rarely an individual player). It’s stupid to throw anything anytime. Way too many cameras out there to make you look like an idiot.
You have no idea. Lmfao. If they don’t call you out by your name, fans will use player numbers or whatever else they can think of to get their vile words toward the player intended. Just have to zone it out.
It’s bad on the college level, probably worse in some cases. No one’s worse that Death Valley idiots (LSU).
