Looks like Perry and Woodward are both 2nd rounders if they are even picked.

Sure wish we had one or both back this year, but the money came calling.

Good luck to them both and Hail State!

Ricky O'Donnell of SB Nation has Woodard going to the Knicks in the 27th pick. Link: Here.

27. New York Knicks - Robert Woodard, F, Mississippi State
Why the Knicks would take him: Woodard measured at 6’7, 230 pounds with a 7’2 wingspan, which counts as ideal size for an NBA combo forward. He generally plays a low-usage offensive game, but he proved to be a capable spot-up shooter during his two years at Mississippi State. This is a good spot to bet on a potential 3-and-D forward for New York.

OUR PICK: Robert Woodard, F, Mississippi State. Remember, the Knicks got this pick by using their cap space to sign a free agent (Marcus Morris) who they flipped at the deadline to the Clippers for this selection. The Knicks actually did something smart!

Woodard is a type of player i could see going 22nd or 42nd.
There are so many examples of similar players who get in mid-1st round and even more who are mod-late 2nd round if at all.

Perry, who knows. Never understood why he was so ignored. He may not have a high ceiling, but he also doesn't have a low floor and a lot of nba players are successful with Perry's skillset.

I think both will be good pro’s. Woodard, if in the right spot, could especially flourish in the modern game. I’m pulling for them both! They both seem like great guys.

With a lot of small ball, stretch 4/two forwards being played Perry is obsolete based on that...that’s not to say he won’t make it but seems like the back to the basket game is long gone

But he isn't simply a traditional back to the basket player. He has great passing instinct, can shoot from the outside and midrange, and has handling skill to initiate fast breaks at the college level.

Does he not have a low floor? I would have thought his floor would be Lawrence Roberts. He seems a little more versatile, but the game has also changed to where I think 4's in general are much more versatile, so I'm not sure he is any better off against his competition.

I think you are overrating a bunch of those skills. He’s a good shooter but was not a great passer or ball handler (his assist to turnover ratio in conference games was 39:60). He wasn’t terrible but he wasn’t elite for his position.

He’s also just not as athletic as a lot of NBA guys that are similar in size. He will get a shot but he really needs to land on the right roster and then improve some components of his game.

I hope he finds a way to make it though because our program needs to be able to point to putting more guys in the league

Wait, did I use that term wrong?

I agree he is similar to Roberts in use and also that he is more versatile. And yeah, competition is also more versatile now. I just dont seem him being a wasted pick in the low 1st round or early 2nd round. In that range, there is a ton of historical washout.
While some players have a high ceiling and a low floor, I think Perry's floor is higher even if his ceiling isnt very high.

What is he missing to be an effective bench/development 4 coming out of college?
He has size, mobility, can shoot from deep(he isnt incredible, but he shot 32.5% last season and has the range), rebounds very well, and scores great.
Not many big men are ready to be stretch 4s coming right out of college.

Maybe Im just wooly on him?...its always odd to see how some players translate into the NBA while others dont.
Perry was a 5* McD AA, FIBA U19 Tournament MVP, SEC Player of the Year, averaged a double double last season, and may go undrafted. Wild.
He is also viewed as a Center by at least a couple publications, for whatever that is worth. Hopefully he is picked in the late 30s and gets a shot on a team that didnt make it to Orlando last season.

You used it right if a second round draft pick matching Lawrence Robert's NBA career is not "low" as a floor. I would say if Lawrence Robert's career is your floor, that's still low because ultimately they didn't really get anything out of the draft pick. Certainly sticking around for a few years is as good or better than most second round picks, and getting his little bit of production on a rookie contract is better than paying the veteran minimum for it. But I think most GM's would see that as a failed draft pick, even if it's par for the course or even a little better than that for second round draft picks.

But I would agree if you are comparing him to other second round draft picks, he would seem to be a comparatively good risk or at least seemingly as good a risk as the other many prospects falling into that second round grade.
