.....my dad and I used to 'discuss' the WAY the National Anthem should be sung....as you might expect for having been born in 1929, he was totally old school...me, as a child of the 60s/70s, not so much....I know it is at times a very divisive song....wish it represented hope of what we COULD be....

That said, some of my favorites have been unusual in some degree...Jose Feliciano in 1971(almost got me kicked out of my family), Carlos Santana a couple of years ago at a GIANTS game...but I LOVED Stapleton's version last night....

Fire away...(btw...I would prefer America the Beautiful as our song)

To this day, Mickey Lolich is still pissed at Jose Feliciano for what he called a "Ten Commandments" version of the National Anthem in the '68 World Series, which put the TV broadcast behind schedule and cut into his warmup pitches. It's hilarious to hear Lolich describe it, just like it happened yesterday.

Both national anthems last night were extremely well done
There is only one true National Anthem. To have more than that completely negates what a national anthem is for.

"Fire away." I see what you did there. :)

Stapleton was fantastic (as always).

Two national anthems? WTF

Ikr. That said, I’m a country music fan but not of Stapleton. The guy just doesn’t do anything for me. But I gotta admit, I liked his National Anthem. He just played it without drawing it out and embellishing it. I thought Babyface (sorry but I have no clue who he is 🤷🏻‍♂️) overplayed his ATB.

Anthem and America the beautiful were both well done. No shenanigans, just talented folks nailing it.

Stapleton was really good. CeCe Winan at 2019 draft. Whitney Houston of course. Best America the Beautiful was Ray Charles 2001 pregame world series.
Worst of all time, Fergie.

The best part of the night was, hands down, the "all-women" flyover. I had no idea women could fly airplanes. What a special, special time in our history. I'm so glad they could make sure we all knew that women were capable of flying airplanes.

Saw a meme where at least women don't have to parallel park those planes... Funny stuff, but agree with you.

Rest assured, she was 20 minutes late and didn’t check her rear view mirror before making the pass.

I like a traditional national anthem, everytime I hear a good, still gets me fired up like I'm standing on the sidelines from 20 years ago. Stapeltons was good, didn't hate it.

Stapleton's was very good, and I'm not a country fan at all.

My favorite of all time is Hendrix. What could be more american? Rock guitar on a Fender Strat played by a US Army airborne?

And don't give me he was disrespecting the anthem. Saw a clip of Jimi on Dick Cavett (Lincoln born). And Dick asked him why he played it. Jimi basically said why not I'm an American.

With British Marshall amps and a Japanese Shin-ei Uni-Vibe. Both still on my wish list. Got the strat about 25 years ago. The other 2 are out of my price range.

I think in that interview, Cavett said some people thought it was disrespectful. Jimi replied "I think its beautiful."
