Seems like a big “sweep it under the rug” scenario going on at Bama. Oats says his star player who brought the gun to the scene of the eventual murder was “in the wrong place at the wrong time”. Oats and probably the entire staff and AD new about this for over a month and kept quiet. I wouldn’t be shocked if dominoes start to fall in that program very soon, it’s ugly down there

Yeah, but read the report. 1:30am, outside the club, his friend who left his gun in Millers car texts him in wierd slang language saying to bring him his gun, which Miller new was loaded and something was about to go down. And he apparently used his car to block in the girls car that was shot. Probably still nothing illegal (maybe) but how is this kid still playing and Oats still coaching

If they weren't the number 1 team in the country and he wasn't their best player. I'd say both of them are probably out at Bama. But winning solves everything.

Why again would Miller be off the team if he didn't commit a crime?

And what did Oats do? I hope recruiting kids who turn out bad isn't a fireable offense. Otherwise.............

Is a crime the only thing that warrants suspension or punishment in your opinion? Is there zero moral standards for D1 athletes anymore? Dude brought his boy a loaded gun after getting a text from him at 1:30 am which immediately resulted in the murder of a mother minutes later. Thug life in Tuscaloosa is the norm I guess

How is there not some sort of accessory charge when you supply a gun that immediately is used in a crime?

I would assume that a sizable percentage of athletes (as well as every other profession) participate in behaviors that I personally don't approve of or are morally questionable. Seems a silly (and completely unenforceable) standard to me.

It’s ok - Oats consulted with Ray Lewis and got the info he needed to make the correct decision

Rumor has it he has also reached out to Marvin Harrison Sr and OJ Simpson seeking advice as well

Speaking publicly for the second time since Sunday’s arrest of Darius Miles for capital murder, Alabama men’s basketball coach Nate Oats revealed Tuesday he spoke to former NFL linebacker Ray Lewis in the wake of the incident.

“His daughter went to Alabama a year-and-a-half ago,” Oats said during an interview with Crimson Tide Sports Network before Tuesday night’s game at Vanderbilt. “He went through a similar situation in Atlanta. He played in the NFL. He told me what he thought guys needed to hear.”

I mean, what he really wants to say is "Yeah, we are really good right now, I am not kicking really good players off the team especially since no one can prove anything, even though we all know what they were doing...roll tide"

Did Nate Oats also reach out to Jeff Dahmer?

Wow, just wow! How can, what appears to be a somewhat functional human being, somehow think reaching out to Ray Lewis for advice is a good idea????

Millers intro every game when he’s announced is a teammate searching and patting him down 😂

alabama did a poor job preparing oats for the media. he's a coach, not a spokesperson.

Just read the E$PN story on this. Was asked to bring the “joint” for him when he was to pick him up? Terrible look by Alabama and the school.

And their AD is Bill Byrne’s son Greg. I would assume that Greg hasn’t given up every shred of decency he had in order to work at Alabama, but he isn’t looking very good at the moment. Is it that hard to do the right thing anymore? Hell, Oats even said they prayed for the victim… using religion as a distraction or some sort of PR move. Disgraceful.
