Be really tough considering we hired another gaurd/small forward in Carrawell versus either bumping up Nate or hiring a great low post coach. Would leave us with assistants that don’t have a background in coaching big men.
What position you played in HS and college has ZERO to do with how or what you coach.

Disagree. It doesn’t necessarily hurt your ability to coach a certain position but it can sure help if you played the position at the highest level of college basketball. There was a reason that Nate was usually the coach working with and getting Marvin, Wendell and Bolden ready before the start of each game.

I definitely disagree about the big men coaching big men idea. There are literally thousands of examples that prove otherwise in every sport. Conversely I have found that it is often times tough for good players to coach their position. A lot of the things they did well we're natural and can be tough to teach. I believe for instance, MJ would make a horrible coach because he can't teach most guys how to play like he did. That's an extreme but example but I think it fits.

Wasn't Wojo our big-man coach before he left for Marquette??? Not at all slighting him, but that was definitely the tenure when elite bigs barely even considered Duke, and the ones that did, didn't come.

Nate seems to really connect with the players, that clearly helps. Also, look no further than the improvement with Marshall Plumlee to see how good of a big-man coach Nate is.

Duke’s coaches have access to the best “coaching” coaches in the world. All we need is a smart guy who’s committed to his given assignments; Carawell fits the bill perfectly. Duke sends their assistants to learn from the best. We good.

Wait, since when did Nate James play the same position as those 3?
