All I can say is that we better not have lowballed the offer. If Napier wants to turn down $4-5M to keep making $875k at Louisiana, I guess that’s his choice.

If we jacked around with a deal that would put him near the bottom of the SEC, however, we clearly haven’t learned our lesson. I’ll give it some time to play out

Not sure you offer him $4-5M. But I’d offer him close to $3M. Maybe a touch more.

3 million dollars would put him as the 50th highest paid coach in the nation.

If that’s who we really want then pay the dude 4 million. Damn.

Now is not the time for Cohen to try and save money.

Good grief, of course you offer 4 or more if he is your #1 target. Just the price of playing poker in the SEC these days. We skimped on Moorhead and got burnt.

The OL Coach at Arkansas is getting 3 million+. 3 million is not a big salary anymore.

Cohen also said in his press conference “ as for as rumors take them with a grain of salt unless you hear them from me. “ I’m not going to believe anything until it’s a done deal.

Maybe Cohen initiated the conversation by saying: "First of all, address me as Mr. Cohen"...that may have ended it

When/why did this Mr. Cohen start? I noticed the SEC network guy corrected himself after the press conference today.

Of course, ULL would be playing in the very last bowl game of the year, on Jan. 6. Just about every other team has long been finished with their season, but the ONE coach that is at the top of our list is still three days away from his bowl game. Just our luck.

And he'll probably keep tickling Cohen's balls and acting interested in the job right up until after his bowl game. ULL will pull some fancy contract out of their *** and Napier will pull the plug for good on State at that point....making us look like a bunch of time wasting chumps that can't even pull a coach from a Sunbelt school.

I'm telling ya, those Indians are getting clever, clever, clever.

At ULL, he only loses 12 off of his 2-deep depth chart next year, 6 on offense and 6 on defense. He knows he'll be in demand next year too.

Someone who's already making $1.6M and figures he can get at least that much more next year at a school that didn't just screw him over 5 weeks ago?

You think we were burnt because we didnt pay enough?
Terrible take.

- Had we paid Moorhead more, would that have somehow kept us from being burnt?
- The consensus when Moorhead waa hired was that MSU nailed it. There was no discussion about MSU not paying enough.

Whatever way you look at it- we didnt skimp last time and we didnt get burned due to not being willing to pay.

If Cohen is dumb enough to offer any number 1-3 candidate less than 4 million a year we deserve what we get. This crap of paying low will come back to bite us like it did two years ago

Well, he was in demand this year as well, and he still works for ULL. He is solid, but he might be overplaying his hand

How many SEC coaches make under $4 million?

Vandy and Arkansas? Is there anyone else? Pruit made $3.8 in 2019 according to Google. I assume he will be over $4 million this year.

Someone with experience and leverage, like Napier should be $4 million +. The only reason we should be paying less is because we couldn't hire someone with experience and we are going the coordinator route again.

We play football in the most expensive neighborhood in the country. The SEC.

Cost of living is high

We should have hired someone that was more proven as a HC at the D1 level and paid more. We also skimped on assistant pay which didn't help things. We lucked out with Mullen moving from OC to HC and thought we could replay the formula with JM and it just didn't work.

Sure, but this is different from your other post's point.
You claimed we didnt pay up and got burnt, when money isnt why we were burned.

It’s time to let the nuts hang on the money front. I want to truly put the nation on notice that we mean business here. Put these guys in line with their secW brethren, make it clear we will pay elite assistants an elite salary, and let’s change our coaching narrative completely.

No more lowballing guys until they get a better offer and then matching that offer. Pay them their worth on the front end and quit losing them because you were cheap initially and left the door open to everyone under the sun to try and poach them. No one admits it, but there has to be a little bit of hard feelings over that sometimes.

An earmark of about additional $5mil per of the $30mil expected influx sounds about right.
