McMurphy is quoting a "source" not necessarily Napier.
What would you expect him to say before his bowl game if asked.

Napier is preparing for a bowl game, I highly doubt he'd come out and say he's accepting the job until after the game.

That said, this is not a good sign imo. We'll see though.

It’s not even a source with direct knowledge. It’s a source who was “told” that. That’s double hearsay or more. That doesn’t even come close to what used to be acceptable journalism sourcing.

Of course, ULL would be playing in the very last bowl game of the year, on Jan. 6. Just about every other team has long been finished with their season, but the ONE coach that is at the top of our list is still three days away from his bowl game. Just our luck.

It says a source told Stadium, which is who McMurphy works for.

All I can say is that we better not have lowballed the offer. If Napier wants to turn down $4-5M to keep making $875k at Louisiana, I guess that’s his choice.

If we jacked around with a deal that would put him near the bottom of the SEC, however, we clearly haven’t learned our lesson. I’ll give it some time to play out

Maybe Cohen is going to run everybody off so he can get HUD for $1.5.

Likely Napier is still the top choice and considering. We won't know anything until after his bowl game or later next week.

Honestly, I can't imagine us lowballing any candidate at this point.

Napier will make around $1.6 million starting this year with his new contract. We were paying Mo’head about $3.3 million. We ain’t offering a G5 coach or another Coordinator/Assistant $4 million. Just ain’t happening. We are paying a guy $4 mil not to coach us, and will have to pay State Assist buyouts, plus the buyout of our next coach if he is a sitting coach. I think an unemployed former head coach who will take $4.5 mil or a young G5 coach who will accept $3 mil are more likely.

If we want to hire a guy with g5 or p5 head coaching experience not named Hud we are gonna have to pay up. $4 mill sounds about right.

Yes we are. We have the money. If we want a coach, we will have to spend money. Bounds was on Finebaum today saying the same thing. We have the money. Gotta spend it. You get what you pay for.

If this is true, he wasn’t our guy.

Cohen locked up our guy before he fired Joe.***

Everybody here knows he wouldn’t be dumb enough to fire a guy without having his replacement lined up.***

"declined an opportunity" reads as "turned down the opening offer" to me.

The tweet does not say he will not be our next head coach. FYI I don't care if it's him or not.

It's hard to comprehend how someone can turn down a raise of a couple million bucks, and I doubt ULL could match that.

It's also hard to imagine somebody not taking off after winning 11 games there. I mean how can your stock possibly go any higher? He must have his eyes set on a certain job and we aren't it. I'm fine with that. We played football a few years without him.
