Won’t happen but Florida at 4. They would beat everyone but Bama and might beat Bama in a rematch. Saban couldn’t wait for that game to end

Committee has never put in a Conference Champion loser.

There is precedent for a non Conference Championship game participant to make it (2016 OSU, 2017 Alabama and 2018 ND).

I don't think the committer will put in a team that just got blown out 18hrs earlier.
Maybe if it was a close game but this wasn't.

Why ND is a lock in the fourth spot?

1) They are Notre Dame -- Repeat that few times. Doesn't it sound royal?
2) Ratings -- They are a ratings magnet
3) History -- No school has their history. Remember "Win one for the Gipper"
4) Strong Global Fan Base -- Whole world knows Notre Dame Football
5) Elevates the status of CFB Playoffs -- Without ND, it is a jock playoffs.
6) Political Pressure -- Politicians love ND to get Catholic votes.
7) Religion -- They get all the Catholics praying for them.
8) NY Metro -- They own NY Metro; CFB needs NY metro for ratings
9) NBC -- They are on NBC
10) Bloomberg -- They are on Bloomberg radio and always mention them.

Lastly, they were very good this year. Can't penalize them for losing a last game unless it is a rule that you have to win your conference championship. I think winning a conf championship should be a rule.

A&M lost to Bama, on the road, early, decisively.
ND lost to Clemson, on a neutral site, late, decisively.

I have to put A&M ahead of ND.

Nd also beat Clemson. Doesn’t matter who was hurt you can’t just throw that game out. Either one gets smoked by Bama.

If you go by the eye test, it’s Florida.
Florida lost to TA&M and then to a crappy LSU team (prior to losing to Bama). Who do you think would win in a game? TA&M or ND? That's the answer to who is #4.

There are good arguments against any team for the fourth spot. I would have liked to see Cincy but their last two games they only won by 3 each against marginal competition, they needed to keep up the blowouts. I think it is ND over A&M as ND has more wins and a better win, albeit Clemson without Lawrence in OT. Not interested in seeing a rematch of A&M and Ala, will be the same result. Really wish they would do the 8 team playoff with conf champs and three wild cards.

Bama
Clemson
OSU
ND

ND is clearly in over Texas A&M. Here's why:

ND's only loss (to Clemson by 24) isn't as bad as Texas A&M's only loss (to Bama by 28).

ND beat the team they had their loss against, while Texas A&M didn't. Trevor Lawrence doesn't play defense for Clemson. Clemson scored 6 points less in their win than their loss. The first game Clemson allowed 47 points while the second they allowed 10 points. That's why they won, so no BS excuses, like Trevor Lawrence didn't play. 🤣

ND played and won two more games.

ND has two quality wins and by bigger margins (Clemson by 7 and North Carolina by 14) to Texas A&M's one quality win (Florida by 3).

Notre Dame, like it or not, is easily the number four team.

Why so we can watch ND lose to Bama by 40?

I hate to say it but Ohio Stare’s lack of games and interrupted practice time has really hurt that team‘s ability to work out any kinks...but they are the only other team besides Clemson and Alabama to have the individual talent to play at the championship level.

At this point I would put Texas A&M in at #4.

To those saying that ND doesn't belong in, who does?

Texas A&M whose worst loss was a 28 point beat down to the team they would be matched up with?

Why does Texas A&M deserve the rematch, while ND doesn't against a team they both lost to and beat?

1. Alabama
2. Clemson
3. Ohio State
4. Texas A&M

5. Notre Dame
6. Cincinnati

That would be me but I have a feeling the committee would put ND in instead of AM because they're ND. Cincy will get the obligatory G5 NY6 spot.

How do you know how much ND would lose by? But do you know what we do know? A&M lost by 28 to Alabama.
ND put up 47 on Clemson in the first game. Clemson's backup QB did not play defense (I think). They also beat a ranked UNC, and A&M lost to the only other ranked team on their schedule.

I agree they’re in. They are not one of the four best teams , but they will get the bid .
And Alabama will throttle them by at 20 or more.
Notre dame is not in a conference in normal years so your last rule wouldn’t apply to them

Those that cite A&M's early big loss to Bama forget that the committee puts less emphasis on early season losses. Consequently ND's loss to Clemson will have an impact. If I were to bet A&M will make it in. Recall years ago when Ohio State won the national championship? They lost early ion the season and then steam rolled to the championship.

Clemson was also missing a LB who is a key part of their defense in the first matchup when ND had success. He was back last night and there was quite a difference.

ND doesn’t deserve to be in, but there is no alternative. A&M is screwed but the fact that the playoff is looking for someone to play Bama and we have see they aren’t capable of it.

The Allstate Playoff Predictor's final playoff projections:
Alabama 99%
Ohio State 89%
Clemson 84%
Notre Dame 67%
Texas A&M 34%
Cincinnati 18%
Oklahoma 4%

Notre Dame has a superior resume (per Strength of Record) and is the better team (per FPI) relative to Texas A&M, which is why the model leans toward the Fighting Irish for the fourth spot in the playoff.

Galloway thinks ND will be moved to 3 even though no one wants a 3 peat because he thought Fields subpar performance in two games keeps OSU at 4. Palmer thinks ND to 4 and one reason is to avoid 3 peat. Galloway said 3 peat or not committee is not suppose to slot based on that. It’s against the rules. Only suppose to rank based on how good each team is and resume’

ND lost to Bama 42-14 and Clemson beat them in playoff 30-3. Have no doubt Bama will score like 48 points vs ND.

Yes, but we already know AM would get killed by Bama since they have already. Cincinnati would get killed as well.

Alabama killed Texas A&M earlier. Clemson killed Notre Dame earlier. Neither should be in if Clemson and Alabama are in, question has already been answered in a shortened season. Cincy should have been given the chance. All these rematches, what's the point of even playing the regular season games anymore.
