Who stole our Myles and replaced him?

Myles was blocking shots, rebounding, scoring around 10 ppg and had a FG % that was in the top 10 nation wide.

Now (and for quite a while) he set's a screen and inevitably picks up a foul.

He puts the ball on the floor and loses it.

He misses those flushes as often or more often than he makes them.

His rebounding and blocks are …?

And he still needs help at the FT line.

I think a lot of our problems could be solved if we knew how to correct Myles' problems...and thereby our own.

Myles has some major confidence issues. He's also only a Sophomore and playing against the best big men in the country night in and night out in the Big Ten. He shows flashes of being very good. If there's one player on the team that needs to "toughen up" it's Myles. The off season is going to be crucial for him in a strength and conditioning standpoint and also a player development standpoint.

Mathis had a drive and beautiful dish to Myles under the basket and he takes a dribble and pump fakes like he is terrified to get blocked and draws a non shooting foul. That play has summed up his play as of late. Not playing with any confidence at all. He needed to take that pass and slam it home with authority with no hesitation. Really wish he would embrace the "Myles the Monster" persona. Too nice. Needs a mean streak

Myles The Monster has to believe he can’t be beat down low... anyone that has been around RU basketball may remember Rasheed Kent all 6’4” 265 lbs. Kent had the attitude of give ME the ball inside and nobody is gonna stop ME...that is what our coaches need to instill in his thought process...I honestly felt he would develop more these past 10 games inside but he has digressed... putting the ball on the floor is a real issue... not to make excuses but didn’t Myles have a suspected back issue not too long ago ? it could very well be a reason but at this point our overall shooting and perimeter D remains suspect.

Part of the problem is it seems our offense has really gone away from getting him the ball inside.

I think 6'4" was the width of his shoulders. He was officially listed at 6-6, I believe, both by Rutgers and by the Texas as TE.

He was never really featured in the offense. He got most of his points on out backs and off dunks from drive and dish. He seemingly has lost his touch around the basket and is missing a dunk per game over the last few. Those missed dunks are like negative points

A few games back he got a pass, maneuvered inside and faked his man, did a reverse pivot and slid underneath for an easy layup. Looked like he had done it his whole life. No hesitation just fluid motion. Since than he has trouble just catching the ball. Everything disappeared.

Rashod...regressed...
But I agree, he needs to play tougher. Kent was an absolute beast AND had great athleticism.

This--- exactly what frustrates me the last half dozen games. He is always trying to put the ball on the floor then go back up. Incredibly frustrating to watch.

Rashod regressed? His senior season is the last time a RU player has averaged a double-double (10.5/10.2).... even while he was shooting just .371 from the FT line. We haven't had anyone even average 8 rb/game since.

You know, with young players, these things can turn on a dime. He could bang against a PSU player that RU bested before and he can get the confidence back going down the stretch.

I agree a lot is mental lately. Here's hoping the switch gets turned on in the next few games and we look back at a mid season swoon.

Johnson's line since the start of February:
24.6 min, 4.4 pts (13-37 .351 FG, 5-14 .357 FT), 7.3 rb, 1.0 ast, 1.1 tov, 2.6 pf

Somehow his % from the line is better than his % from the floor over the last 6 games. Really need him to step up down the stretch.... Baker and Harper seem to have pulled out of their slumps, and we need Johnson and McConnell to do the same.

Combined stats of Johnson/McConnell since the start of Feb:
45.9 min, 9.0 pts (28-87 .322 FG, 0-9 .000 3P, 7-18 .389 FT), 10.2 rb, 1.4 ast, 2.1 tov, 4.2 pf

Scangg,

Totally agree. Just slam it home Myles!!! No need to dribble most of the time. Get back the confidence that was shown earlier in the year. I think part of it might be because he is such a poor foul shooter that might affect his thinking. If he was an 80% foul shooter, he would not be concerned with anything and just Slam it Home. Definitely thinking way too much.

Best of Luck,
Groz

I wonder if his free throw shooting has impacted his overall game from a psychological standpoint. His form actually seems better last few games, even though results have still been poor. Can be putting a lot of pressure on himself over all this.

It seems obvious to me he is fatigued. Everyone he does seems to take so much effort. Could be just body language, but I think it is more than that.

I think him not starting is more than not getting in to foul trouble. I think it is an effort to get him less minutes and hope he gets his "second wind" down the stretch.

No I ‘m of the opinion Rashod Kent did not regress as someone here claimed ... he was a BEAST of a player who intimidated numerous bigs... between he and Joel Salvi ( mister 6th man) we were always pounding the ball inside... JHC...why have we gotten away from that earlier philosophy ...I realize the competition is much different these past 10 games but Johnson, Carter , Mathis Harper all need to take the ball inside.

Myles being a poor FT shooter is all the more reason not to pump fake. He is more likely to draw a foul that way

Watkins is a better matchup for Myles so this should be a game he can break out. Myles struggles against the 5's who step out and shoot from the perimeter

Umm...no I was correcting the post that called Rashod “Rasheed” and said he “digressed” not regressed. I would think my second sentence made it clear I understood his value AND know his actual name.

Sorry, misread. Didn't realize you were commenting on grammar/spelling, not commenting on his point.

Myles will be fine....he needs to play in an old Jersey shore type league over the summer or against someone like Shaquille O'Neal...and get pushed around a bit....then fight back.....and know the weight room is the key to winning in the post.

Myles is a very smart student....technique is not enough....he needs a big man mentor...Coach Pike needs to get him one for the summer.

Look how Harper Jr. moves around the basket so easily....weight training!
