How tied are you to threaded? Love it, hate it, or indifferent? With our current setup - you have the option to view threaded or topic but we are running an older software system.

I use topic. Threaded is the ice ages. However, I do like the hybrid view for tracking who is responding to who. TD is straight topic but says who is replying to who.

And my yearly response that topic view is awful. I use it on my iPhone because you just about have to, but I hate it. You can't follow who's replying to who and you only have the options to open the whole damn thread and search manually for any new posts or just ignore the whole thing (I often choose the 2nd option on my phone). With hybrid or threaded view, you can easily see if there are any new posts in a thread and click on them quickly if you want to read them.

I'm indifferent. I don't dislike threaded but use topic more than anything. I also like having the hybrid option. It's helpful sometimes.

I absolutely prefer threaded view on the computer because I can easily see who is responding to whom, and I can often see subject line responses on the front page and not even have to go into the thread.

I just recently accidentally started seeing threaded view on my phone. Not sure what I did, but I mostly like it, if just to see the replies on the front page. It's a small font, so I wouldn't mind a topic view on the phone if it showed who was replying to whom. Like someone else said, TD has topic view but at least shows to whom a post is replying (and click on it to see the first post among the two).

Threaded all the way.. For some reason I've lost the ability to request desktop on mobile iOS and I'm reminded every day how awful topic view is.

Give me threaded view or give me death!

I think that's what the forefathers said, and I agree.

Definitely Topic. Allows for more, you know, topics. And posters can just quote the post they are replying too like is done on elitedawgs.

Also, I'd love to see you guys start doing game threads so there aren't 15 different posts during games. Your board basically gets purged every time MSU plays a game.

To follow up, threaded view is terrible because what it does to the home page. I follow the don’t bump old topic rule here but the only reason that’s an issue is because how terrible threaded view is. Other forums I’m on for other interest have threads that are years old and it doesn’t matter because it doesn’t clutter the home page. Topic view is much easier to track because of the quote function or the post says “replied to”. Part of the issue with this board is its 50/50 of those who follow topic protocol or threaded protocol. The threads would be easier to read if you do one or the other, not both. For me, I hate threaded but if this board went 100% only threaded tomorrow I’d deal with it but that’s nostalgia imo

I'm reading from my phone 100% of the time, so I just wish the posts were in sequential order on Mobile View. Sucks to see that a new post was made but then have to search through the times to find it.

Just go to the bottom left of the page and choose Threaded view.

You can change that but it has to be done on a desktop view. Once in a post - click Display and click "Switch to Linear Mode".

Looks like you're going to have to go the Apple route... take away something folks are used to (home button, headphone jack) and force them to adapt to the future.

Edit: This was at least 40 percent tongue in cheek. But while I was once a staunch threaded advocate, I realize that of the three MSU boards I check periodically, I only view SPS in threaded view (don't know if it's an option on the others). Even then that's only on desktop, which is probably 15-20 percent of my time here.

Or just keep the old format we have now. It's a message board. Nothing complicated about it. Most of the "future" updates I've seen from Apple and Microsoft the last few years have made thier product worse instead of better.
