He has been hired as WVU interim coach and I could see the possibility of calipari becoming the head coach there. If the cats fail to produce this year I could see him leaving for a venue closer to his original home.
Based on…

Cal wouldn’t be a good candidate for a program wishing to take the next step, at this point in his career. An ideal candidate for that job would be someone hungry, and ready to take the next step in their career. An ideal job for Cal is something like what tubby tried towards the end of his career , hoping to hold serve somewhere ( Tubby couldn’t - Memphis and high point both fell back under him ) , win a little bit and get guys in the pros. He’s not someone an A.D. would hire to really make a splash and make NCAA runs and things like that at this point, I don’t think. Also, what it would cost to pay him to do all that. Texas passed on him for those reasons , and they have the $$ to pay

Hard to believe Andy Kennedy passed if offered . I read a WV article that believed the asst. was promoted to avoid a roster purge and complete disaster

OP really reaching for something to post about on a slow day.
Zero inside information on Cal.
Zero inside information on WVU athletics.
100% wild *** speculation by the OP.
You are correct in that it is surely speculation on my part. However you may not know that his dad Vince who by the way is celebrating his 89th birthday is not in the best of health. Sure it is a stretch for me to have the kind of post about that but it got me to thinking about how strong his family ties have been and the devastating loss of his mother and the grief his dad went through and still is.

Why wouldn't Cal have Vince close by wherever he was coaching?
Anything is possible when you have Cal's money

He should go back home and coach Pitt. That would be a fitting spot for his final destination before he retires. Take the hometown team to new heights and retire there a legend.
If he's players first at UK, why wouldn't he be at Pitt.
Again, why would he choose to leave UK but not leave CBB?

Closer? It's almost directly east.

The Pittsburgh area is closer to Lexington than a lot of people think. Lots of UK fans, students, alumni in this area. I was at a wedding near Pittsburgh yesterday and ran into a diehard UK fan from Somerset. My point is that I don't see WVU as THAT much closer!

No chance they offered a coach with a DUI the job to replace the coach they just forced to resign because of a DUI.

I think Kennedy's incident was punching a cab driver while he was hammered. Equally embarrassing. I agree that hiring him would not be the message WVU wants to send.

Morgantown is one hour from Pittsburgh. Lexington is 5.5 hours. To the other poster about living in PA -he could definitely live in PA if he wanted to -- Morgantown is a border town.

Pitt would be a great landing spot for Cal.

His hometown. Decent sized market / city where he would be welcomed as a hero.

WVU, not so much. Although close to Pennsylvania, it's all rural unless you go all the way to Pittsburgh -- too far to commute.

JMO, of course.

You’re delusional if you think Cal would leave for West Virginia……

Yes he would. And almost every school would jump at the chance to hire Cal.

He only takes every school he coaches to the FF. He's going to retire here. But if he went somewhere else they are in the FF within 3 years.
